I'd be too, but who knows if the other team prefers RHD gem or if Silayev come before Dickinson. I don't even know if my offer is enough for 10 overall.

I think if Dubas has the 10OA pick, he's keeping it. The Pens need quality prospects.

They just sold, I don't think they are in win now mode. They need quality prospects, their pool is one of the weakest in the league. They'd probably keep the 10OA unless it's for a quality prospect worth that pick

they sold because it wasn't likely that guentzel was gonna be able to be re-signed. Building a prospect pool would be a good idea but with the core Pittsburgh have there's no way Dubas won't give it another shot

Drafting Dickinson at #10 when you already have Guhle, Struble and Hutson (plus others) seems counter-intuitive, since the first two have already started proving themselves. If you're going to pick a defenseman, I'd think Parekh (if he's still on the board) or Yakemchuk would be more likely choices. I think it would all depend on which forward you get with your own pick.

how much do you have to smoke to get to the point of thinking the pens would trade top 10 pick for a bunch of lessor prospects.

I realize Montreal doesn't have the most enticing package for their pick but if the pens have their 1st this year I fully expect they trade it, not specifically to Montreal

I'd be shocked if Xhekaj signed for that low of AAV through 30 - he would be severely limiting his career earning potential

No they won't. They know that they they won't have a first next year so they NEED to get a prospect. They'll build up their roster in Free Agency to try and make another run at it

Or, they trade the pick to try and make sure their pick next year is a close to 32nd as possible

They tried that this season and they're still out of the playoffs. They need to be extremely cautious now that they've traded away future assets for a lost season.

You can achieve the same thing in Free agency without giving up a top 10 pick

I think you can get better players for a top 10 pick than through FA, but yes they're a bad season away from being the 2nd team to completely regret trading for Karlsson.
I think the problem for them too is the fit, they didn't need Karlsson but any team would be stupid to not try it if they're competing. You'd think Crosby Malkin Guentzel Letang and Karlsson would be enough to make the playoffs but that isn't the case. Dubas is building a team like he's an NBA GM (again), where he puts all his money/assets into a loaded core of 4/5 guys and has scraps left to fill out the other spots, and it's blowing up in his face, even worse than it did for him in Toronto.

I want to reiterate that while I think they will trade the pick if they keep it, they should keep it and try focus on life after Sid, Geno, EK and Letang are gone a bit more (which he's done with the Guentzel deal)

I think that all RHD could be gone or even that Habs could think to deal one of Struble Ghule in the future if Dickinson is better.
