Description
This team is falling into no man's land. Not a bottom feeder but not a cup contender. We are maxed to the cap and have a roster full of aging veterans. It's time to play the young guys and go after a few high end guys that we can't fill with our prospect pool. I would be fine if the team was struggling while young guys are getting reps but watching vets who clearly don't care is infuriating. Yzerman has 2 years imo to get this team on track or it's time to consider some changes at the top.

Why would the Devils do that?

They have had very similar levels of production so far. Not sure holtz would want to extend given his lack of top 6 minutes. Figured detroit could give him that opportunity and the devils get a similar player back plus a pick.

This team should not still be in the middle of a rebuild

Full rebuilds take 8-10 years. I agree it would be nice to see them further along but prospects take time. Realistically the sharks will not be back into contention until 2028-2030.

I mean like I would agree but we didn't really start the rebuild until last year, I think it will be more like 5 years, and 2027 we should have made an absolute change.

Detroit has been doing this for far too long, it should not take 10 years

Boston and NJ tell you to add

Wallinder, Lyon, and a 2024 2nd rounder likely is a winning caliber bid for Ullmark. I might be higher in Wallinder than others though

Holtz has no choice, he's a RFA. Holtz has been playing much better recently, even in a 4th line role. Next year he should be 3rd line. Beyond that Berggren hasn't really done much at the NHL level so he regressed when he didn't get good scoring opportunities. The Devils should just stick with what they know and have.

No reason for NJD to move Holtz for this type of return

Holtz also is still on ELC…no reason to move him in next year unless they are upgrading another spot in lineup.

I wouldn't say similar player, Holtz had the same production he had last year and was drafted 2 years later and Berggren doesn't have an elite quality like Holtz's shot if Detroit wants him they're gonna have to cough up a very good prospect or 1st they don't even view Berggren as an NHL at almost 24
