Fact is, though, that Anderson would be good on New Jersey; he's a fast player, dumb as hell, but they don't need him to be smart... they need him to play with Jack Hughes so that Jack doesn't have to dodge bullets at the blue line every game when he tries to cross it. His worth given his contract structure, probably a pick between 20-30.

Holtz, though... he's a high pick and still worth where he was picked for his goal scoring ability, despite NJ being a super soft team and unable to give him space to do it.

NJ does not need defensemen left side or right... the only guy that would be of interest is Xhekaj as per they need more attrition on their team, and few players bring more of that than him.

Play him with forwards that actually pressure the play as per Montreal's PK is lousy at this, which is why their PK sucks.

I'd settle with 20% retention on Anderson. NJ needs utility forwards in the worst kind of way and he's one of them.

NJ won't get Xhekaj, I don't think, but Anderson might be one of their targets in the summer if he can be had affordable, but K Hughes is a tough GM to deal with, so they might not get him either.

Anderson at 4 mill is still a cap dump. He's been legitimately AWFUL this year. 2.75 and you start saying sure, maybe as a miles wood+ type guy for the 4th line.

On D NJD needs a guy who can kill penalties, stay out of the box, and be a puck mover. If you want a goon, just go enroll brendan smith in some boxing classes. (and he at least kills penalties at an elite level)

Denis? You mean Denis Gilbert? Unlikely... Gilbert is there for the size and grit he brings. Okhotiuk may be the regular guy in that spot now he's not as big as Gilbert but he's bigger than Harris and he hits like a truck. Calgary has no need at all for a player like Harris. Montreal can put small non physical players on the 3rd pair if they want but Calgary doesn't.

I didn't say he doesn't hit I said he's non physical, that much is clear simply from the amount of penalties he takes. Hitting is part of being physical but it's not all there is to it either.

Regarding hits Harris had 10 hits 2 years ago 53 hits last year and 17 so far this year for 80 hits in total in 117 games or 0.68 hits per game. Not even close to what's expected from a 3rd pairing defenseman. 1st pairing defenseman like Andersson in general don't hit as much because they don't need to, they usually have the puck. So yes Harris throws some hits but less than most defensemen and he doesn't hit very hard.

Nikita Zadorov by contrast a player who is effective on the 2nd pair but usually winds up on the 3rd pair and PK precisely because of his physicality and hard hits is nearly always in the 150-200 hits per season range and has been over 200 twice, with a high 278 in 2017-18. That's a physical defenseman who hits, one of the very most physical and hardest hitting. His very presence on the ice makes a lot of forwards very tentative about going into the corners or anywhere near Big Z. They have no such qualms about a small defensemen who doesn't hit much or very hard.
