If they aren't going to sign him, why would the Habs trade for him and not just sign him when their rights expire? Also Habs pass anyway since we need top end talent not depth peices

He'll go back into the draft, so anyone could take him. How many top end talents do you think we're going to find in the middle of the 7th round?

Being a sub ppg ohler in your D+2 when your badly undersized usually means you dont get signed. A ppg as a d+2 isnt a high bar

We have so many young prospects on ELC or who will be on ELCs soon that we are literally running out of room. It's a bummer, but it is what it is.

just because we need top end talent doesn't mean we can't take a shot on a depth piece. Odds are that 7th rounder won't become anything to begin with and if he's better then what's available in the 7th round then there's no reason no to do it

Except to waste an asset when you can just keep it and draft him if available. Why help another team when you don't need to?

because if he won't be available then it's guaranteeing we get his rights, and giving a team in the other conference a 7th is harmless, sure it's "helping" but it's not something you'd do without seeing a benefit to your organization. If management thinks he's worth bringing in, then giving up a 7th for him is fine. Plus, Montreal have 3 7ths this year, so if there's players Montreal want in that range then they can use the other 2 7ths to get them

It's just not something that makes a whole lot of sense, if he is going back into the draft and you really want him, just draft him. Sure you might not get him but he is at best a depth peice we have plenty of and at worse an AHL contract, not something we should be going out of our way to acquire when we already have plenty of them already
