I don’t get it, not many expected Philly to do as well as they have and ya he is kinda creating unneeded drama.

He also brought a team who has no business being any where near the playoffs into a very tight playoff race.

Maybe there is a strong method to his madness. More captains should be scratched from time to time but coaches don't have the courage to do it. Kudos to Torts for not being soft.

I agree he's done a hell of a job up to this point. But I fear its only downhill from here.

Just because Coots has the C doesn't mean he should be exempt from being being scratched for not playing well.

"He's going to have near zero attention from the guys following this." Torts has brought this team from a bottom 5 team to a playoff contention, so holding their captain accountable for not playing well isn't going to lose the room.

From what I've heard, players love Torts. He is hard on them, but he is always honest and straight forward. He scratched Sean Couturier because he hasn't been producing lately (haven't paid much attention to Flyers, just what I've heard). He has also taken a team that wasn't even supposed to be good this year all the way to being in the playoff picture.

I agree but maybe in this case it’s just the timing…he just got back from suspension.

Not like the suspension was for abusing his own players. Frankly, getting pissed with the refs is probably a great thing from the players perspective. Shows that he's willing to stick up for his guys when he thinks they're getting screwed over. I didn't like it back when I was playing hockey, but most of my teammates did. Course I don't know if its the same for the pros, but it's a safe bet.

SO a coach who has a rebuilding team in a top 6 position in the east over NJD, NYI, PIT, WSH, DET is questioned on his decisions?

Hes got a very young team, and he benches at will REGARDLESS of who it is, and you dont think the kids see the message there?

And, oh yeah, they won with having their captain benched.
