Skinner at 9mil for 3 more yrs with a NMC is going to cost to dump.

Yes he was a ppg last year, and has a 63 pt season the yr before, but hes on pace for less than 60 pts, and thats not good for a 9mil player.

At 31 hes not falling off a cliff, but I somehow doubt he gets back to a ppg pace ever again and for 9 mil thats not good value.

I would simply keep him and have him score 25-30 goals on the 3rd line

Hawks wouldn't consider it as anything less than a significant cap dump meaning, Buffalo would have to offer quite a bit to gain their interest. I also don't think Buffalo is in the same mindset so they are probably better off keeping him.

Skinner is classically/historically inconsistent. His point totals fluctuate wildly. It’s tough to say if he’s aging and slowing down or if this is just one of his down seasons and we see the return of the 30 goal/60 point player next year.

BUF prospect pool is pretty loaded and they're also getting close to ready to compete. I'm wondering if they'd move off of a 1st round pick or one of their prospects to clear this space. I see incentive for BUF both in clearing the money and a top 9 F roster spot. Savoie, Kulich, Rosen, Ostlund are all high draft picks who are pretty close to NHL ready; on top of Benson, Quinn, and Peterka who are already here. BUF already moved off Mitts to clear room, maybe they do it with skinner also. I wouldn't do it from the hawks POV unless we got a decent asset in return of course

We traded mittelstadt for a top pairing defensemen. We didn't dump him

Right and we agree that Mitts and Skinner are a completely situation in terms of their value right? One is a 24 year old for 2.5M on pace for 60-70 pts and the other is a 33 year old making 9M for 3 more years on pace for point totals in the 50s. I was just making the point that Buf moved out a F to make a spot for one of the guys I mentioned above. Not sure what the point of your comment is

Very true, but for 60 pts you shouldn;t be looking at a 9mil cap hit, thats why I dont think he has value ALONE. You'd have to take a cap dump or add something or value for someone to take that, and ultimately theres players with higher upsides or youth not getting in there.

The fact that Mittelstadt was a agonizing decision to trade a 60+ pt player 24 yr old partly due to cap issues is a direct correlation to Skinner getting 9mil. No problem with the Byram swap, but what happens if Quinn and JJP put up a ppg in a contract year and both want a 5mil+ contract, will Sabres have to consider moving one of them because they dont have the money/cap?

(If owner wasn't cheap) Retain $2m for remaining 3 years & add a 3rd or 4th pick or equivalent, would be my pitch.
