The Smith to Vegas train derailed bud. There’s zero reason for us to trade Dorofeyev for him.

EDM retaining 2.5mil on Campbell defeats the purpose of trading him as his buyout is either less than 2.5mil or slightly above (in year 3). The only thing they'd save is the 1.5mil for 3 years at the end which, in the grand scheme of things, is pretty minimal. On top of that, you have them making said trade in order to acquire a goalie that they don't really need (unless you don't trust Skinner after his performance so far). The trade simply makes no sense for EDM.

Since I'm unclear on where you're drawing the line between cost to dump Campbell and cost to acquire Jarry, I'll refrain from commenting on the value.

can't agree more as well as wasting assets and compounding the problem.
Buy out. accrue cap space over season use assets at deadline again.

Edmonton is paying a 1st + Holloway and ends up with an $8M backup. I think the value proposition is clear.

I'll ignore the actual moves and just focus on the strategy. A fast turn-around on a re-tool is three years. The entire core might be gone by then.

So Jarry makes $300,000 more than Campbell for a year longer, And Edmonton is retaining 50% on Campbell for 3 years. Yeah we don't think so.

there is no quick fix for this team people need to give that up.

The best thing this team can do is get a new 2C and put Malkin on the wing and fix the 3rd pairing.
Then fire the coach.
If they do that maybe they can be competitive again as in playoff bubble team.

Very easy "no" for the Jackets. Boqvist is actually useful to this team while he's healthy; Rakell doesn't add anything we don't already have and that contract is atrocious. If you want Boqvist, offer us a 2nd and we're good. If you want us to take back Rakell, you pay ruinous levels of bribery.
