6 wins back of a playoffs spot can be easily reached by adding Dach, Reinbacher, Roy, Primeau and whatever RFA the GM can get by trading away WPG and/or CGY 1st. They have all the tools to upgrade the roster quickly.

Also,

The habs are currently bottom 5 in wins, regulation wins, and goal differential despite getting excellent goaltending from low pedigree goalies.

Only Chicago, Anaheim, and SJS have a worse expected goal differential.

Show me a GM who doesn’t say playoffs are the goal in off season, or weirdly in this case - even before previous season ends. But finishing 8th of 8 in division & 15th of 16 in conference is a tough hill to climb next year.

Thanks Captain Obvious....lol

Kinda disagree that the Habs have "too many Dmen". They don't have enough NHL Dmen.

yeah one of the highest scoring D core in the league sort of puts a wrench in your opinion eh.....thanks for trying though

Especially If you take out every defensive player over 23 years of age, they are left with..

Guhle-Reinbacher
Hutson-Mailloux
Xhekaj-Harris
Struble
Barron
Engstrom
Bogdan Konyushkov
Tourigny

Don't see many orgs with close to that type of top pair potential.

Didn't know that highest scoring D core was a deciding factor in defining "good", I was suggest that being 27th points in a 32 team league is a bigger factor.

I'm glad that it sounds like Mailloux seems to have learned from his egregious mistakes and is on his way to doing better with his life. That said, I have no interest in betting our team on it.

New GM direction doesn't mean moving your top forward prospect "just because".

"No one else is shopping players that young except maybe ANA with Zegras ?" - That's not a MAJOR red flag? There's a reason no one shops players that young of that caliber.

Look, he's the top forward prospect on a team with a ton of lesser prospects but lacking star players, and he's still half a year out from being able to play hockey again. He's not getting traded, and he's not available. I don't know why we keep having "KJ to MTL" discussions, the two teams need the same things and are on the same timeline; they're not good trading partners. Would Montreal move Slaf right now?

Zegras has been linked to trade rumors in the past sure, basically all because he's friends with Caufield and Jack Hughes.
This time it came from the Media not the fans after a rough Contract Negotiation where ANA gave him his Suzuki like Contract moment to sign on and lead the youth for the next 8 years and he didnt want it on their terms. Thats his right 100% and personally i dont blame him i woulda do what he did too but the reality is ANA expected something more and then the "were not shopping him but people are calling and we are listening " PR that every GM says when they shop players.

There was rumors that there was a right in CBJ similr to PHI before Gauthier got traded.
Which lets say there was, it would be fixed with a new GM if they made changes when Johnson was negatively impacted among others.
So Logically some changes are going to 100% be made, but will it be Johnson ,Fantilli or Laine ? i doubt it
