if the Kämpf contract wasn't 3 years maybe TOR could move it. But it was a bad signing the day it was done.
This is the modern NHL. The bottom 6 is suppose to be highly flexible especially the 4th line. No one wants term on these guys anymore. 1-2 years tops.
There is no need to sign 4th liners for more than 1-2 year in todays NHL.
Otherwise you end up in the same spot TOR is in now. Long contracts on guys no one really wants around.
Center is really the last position that this is sinking into. You look around the league and bottom 6 wingers are getting shorter and shorter deals, 3rd pairing defenseman too.
4 c is really next on the list to be treated the same way. You can always extend year to year but you can't move guys when it's not work out.
