I love it! But probably too early and not possible.

I understand your posts but, do you really think it is a good idea to sign reinhart 9+mill until he is 36? these are exactly the deals we made moves to get out of. If we were to sign someone like this, the Meier trade, the hertl trade, the Karlsson trade would have never happened. Our goal is to have a young team built from within.

With that being said, I am all for signing a top 4 UFA dman, I would just rather it be an RD and not trade Ferraro

Sharks are in a major rebuild, Noway is Reinhart, Pesce and Hanifin signing there. Hanifin won't sign in a high taxed state like California.

Considering the canes situation on D, they should definitely do that deal if it's available.

Unfortunately in the cap era these $9M+ x 8 year contracts are what it takes to obtain a UFA superstar or to retain a home grown one. There will come a time when it makes sense for SJ to sign a couple contracts like that again, but probably not for 3+ more years. And as many said here, star players won't want to sign in SJ until the Sharks are contenders again.

Agree with keeping Ferraro and not signing a top LD (Hanifin) at this time. CheechYou did propose signing a top RD (Pesce). Agree that the Sharks need to obtain a top 4 RD this offseason. Pesce would be awesome and has the perfect name for the Sharks but is probably out of reach.

Agree with everything you said. Hot take, but I don’t think I really makes any sense to sign any top 9 UFAs this season, if couture plans on making a return. I think next season is a season where gushchin, graf, bords, all should get full seasons to prove themselves or to show us that we need to find some new guys.

Next off season may be the time to make a splash in the forward group. But not this off season.

I think an elite team nowadays comes from within. With maybe one or two external signings.

This offseason sign 1 or 2 top 4 D: Roy? Dumba? Zadorov? DeMelo? Dillon?

I’d love Roy. Maybe trade for a 2nd younger one?

Roy would be great. Maybe more attainable than Pesce. Dumba is probably more likely. The Sharks shouldn't be trading any early draft picks at this point in the rebuild. Keep that 2nd, draft a young D man, and wait.

Not necessarily true. Trading EK65 and Meier 1) allowed the team to properly tank for Celebrini (or another high-end prospect at #2 or #3) and 2) netted back assets to a rebuilding team like Mukh, Musty, Zetterlund, PITT 1st, etc. It wasn't just getting out of their big contract situations that were main factors in their deals. If the Sharks could get guys like Hanifin and Reinhart essentially for free as UFAs, they absolutely would -- 7 or 8 years be damned (someone said it in another comment, that's just what it takes to sign these guys).

That said, like the other comments have said, it's unlikely those guys would consider signing with SJ. On the other hand, landing Celebrini would be a BIG pull for those guys (coupled with SJ's other promising young talent), as would the fact that money speaks and Sharks would outbid other teams if they really wanted to help Celebrini and the young team to have a few excellent guys to help lead this new team.

I’m going to have to disagree with you. Signing a guy like Reinhardt and hanafin make no sense. Yeah, it makes us a better team right now, but with smith and in this case celebrini, they are rookies. Most likely they break out and really become studs in 3-4 years when they are 22-23. In that time, Reinhart will already be on the down angle of his career.

We should sign Good ufas when our young guys break out to fill gaps.
