Looking at NHL draft pick value per pick, it could be fair depending on where CGY sees MTL next year. Would be ballsy move by MTL though. They aren't ready to compete.

If Iginla is on the board, then CGY is picking him unless they win the draft lottery.

There is not a world where I see the Flames not picking Iggy's kid. The only way I could ever see them not selecting him would be if they make it into the top 3 selections. I do not think any team would justify taking Iggy 2.0 before the eighth pick anyway. Too many higher tier prospects to select

is that a fair trade to move up 17 spots?

Yeah, I think it's fair based on where CGY, and MTL are.

That said, it really depends on how much does the CGY scouting staff likes the players available compared to 17 picks later. It also depends on if the 2025 draft looks stronger than 2024, and if the Flames scouts believe that MTL will pick in the top 10.

I think that next year's draft is better and that MTL will probably have a top 8 pick, so I would personally go for it.

I think if Calgary gave up the pick that a different team then used to draft Tij, there would be riots in Alberta

A fact which Conroy and his special advisor Jarome are very well aware of. Even meddling micro managing majority owner Murray Edwards has to know that.
