Too bad Flames ownership said no to retaining on Jacob Markstrom, Hence why the deal fell apart in the first place.

Seattle would decline that trade. They need Borgen more than Mangiapane. For all of Seattle's scoring woes, they actually have a plethora of capable middle six wingers; it's the top end scoring that they're lacking. Adding another guy in that middle-six mold in Mangiapane isn't worth losing a key piece of their defense in Borgen.

If BB wants Markstrom it'll take at least Toronto's 2024 1st + Knies and that's without retention. Besides Knies Toronto doesn't have any players Calgary would be interested in who don't have a NMC. And no they wouldn't want Marner or Tavares even if they were willing to waive (they wouldn't be) either.
