Description
This team needs significant help on D and in G. Markstrom would be a perfect gap to Cossa w/ Lyon starting 30-ish games max so he doesn't burn out. Buch is a great fit for another offensive weapon that is more mobile than Kane/Perron who leave in FA. D is vastly improved along w/ F depth. A couple of cap dump trades for Fabs and Holl, Petry gets shot out of a cannon even though he's been better the last week or so. Raymond has played himself into an 8 year big money contract.

Brought up a couple of kids, signed a couple of vets to fill the lineup. I'd love to add another scorer but we can't keep letting in 4 goals/game and that's where the money went.

Just drop Markstrom from that trade and work around adding what's necessary to 1st + Berggren for Andersson.

We don't need a 34 year old one at the price Calgary wants for Markstrom...

I figured he's got a couple of good years in him and partnered w/ Lyon that's a decent 1A/1B if Lyon doesn't burn out. I think Cossa is a year or two away from the show with Augustine a couple of years behind him. Plus that part of the trade would be Husso/2nd/3rd for him which isn't much if Stevie could swing that for a decent vet goalie.

At the rumored price of what NJD/CGY were working out, I'd pass on Markstrom.

Especially considering we've picked up several goalies that played well before here, sucked here, and now in Ned's case, are playing well again away from here.

Acquiring a good goalie doesn't really help if his defense leaves him out to dry regularly.

Trading for Markstrom makes no sense.

Trading for Buch makes a lot of sense, but not at that price for an expiring UFA

100% w/ your defense comment. What was the rumored price for NJD? I didn't catch that at the TDL.

Yes, you offered value, but deferring the 1st three drafts is not gonna fly, man. And to also protect it? Weird. You guys should be nowhere near the bottom 10 at that time.

I would hope not, but it's just a little CYA. In the meantime, STL likely has both Elmer and Wallinder playing in the NHL; they're not far away. Plus I already traded the 24 to Calgary in this scenario and didn't want to skip the 1st round two years in a row.

I understand all your reasoning and it's unimpeachable, and if Buch was on the block, okay, sure. But he's not, they prefer to keep him. The Blues are not going to waste a chunk of value in a Buch trade on a 1st pushed off so long. They'd probably take your 24 2nd over a 26 1st.

I believe they had agreed on something along the lines of 1st + Holtz and Calgary ownership killed the deal, demanded Mercer in the return, and NJD never pulled the trigger.
