You forgot to sign a player to a $11 million contract that Dubas will inevitably give out to someone

Retain say 25% salary on Graves + replace Ponomarev with something besides yet another smaller left shot forward and Calgary considers this.

Mitch Marner but Bonehead Brad will outbid him.

Then at the 2026 deadline Brad decides he needs a goalie sending Knies + Toronto's 2026 1st to Calgary for Markstrom at 50% retained.

You can pay the hawks but they aren't paying or even taking Acciari for free

Trade Jarry for a 3rd and 5th only to send a massive load to essentially trade for a more expensive Jarry. What a waste.

I think the Markstrom trade largely depends on how the Flames management views Graves. If they think he'll be a good fit in our top 4 then it's a good deal for both sides, and one I can see happening.

The term on Graves is the only thing that would give the Flames pause, the contract will still be on the books by the time they play in the new building, and want to be competitive.

Yeah if Graves' contract only had 2 maybe even 3 years left on it this they'd consider it. It's the term and AAV combined with his age that makes acquiring him a bad idea. Graves would be more valuable if he was more physical, he's not bad defensively but not very physical for such a big guy and doesn't provide much offense either.

Why exactly are the Blues paying a 3rd for Smith?

I know the LD market is slim but I don't think I'm comfortable giving him that contract.

Not the biggest fan of the goaltending move either. Traded Jarry for a minimal return and then paid a lot for what is maybe a marginal upgrade, but also more expensive.
