They already have greaves too even if Elvis is traded. In this scenario they would just sign Ned for cheaper

AJ Greer ensured he would never be back in COL one October night in MIL and then double downed on that another night in NY shortly thereafter. They aren’t trading Wood, Colton maybe, and well I think they can get more for Georgiev but there is another dude who melted his way out the door.

I don't mind this. Either Greaves or Tarasov is the future (or Ivanov, or a future draftee if the rebuild takes that long), but both need to play, and there's only one NHL net. Preference is to buy out Elvis and sign literally any UFA goaltender that'll take a 1 year deal to be the backup on a bottom-10 team in all likelihood.

That said: Georgiev is a clear upgrade at backup, but I don't know that this team should be spending any assets at all on that position at the moment.

Buying Elvis out and trading for Georgiev would be dumb. You waste more draft picks and spend even more cap space than just keeping Elvis. Not to mention georgiev is a downgrade from Elvis.

Georgiev is ~30ish in the league for best goalies, I see Elvis as ~50ish. He's not a downgrade, but it is essentially an expensive lateral move, with the price being picks (cap space means nothing to Columbus next year). Elvis being on the team next season, given his discontent, is a nonstarter IMO. No one is taking that contract, so he'll be a buyout.

I'd pay up to a 6th for Georgiev as the backup, but anything more and I'd rather just sign any of the UFAs or put in a waiver claim early in the season.
