Description
Acciari trade is kind of a placeholder, don't think he'd fetch a 3rd. For Edmonton, getting a 2nd back is more for taking most of Campbell off their hands.

Edmonton will just buyout Campbell in the offseason for less than that retained salary.

That's probably what happens. I would rather retain and kick in a 2nd as it's cheaper in the long run (the buyout isn't great after year 1) but I certainly wouldn't take back the Jarry contract.

Any disposition of the Campbell contract is for cap space, they aren't going to retain $2M PLUS Jarry's $5.4M when Campbell is only costing $3.8M right now.

i agree retaining would be dumb
but a buyout would be really dumb, Ill never count out Ken Holland tho
Saddling McDavids prime with more deadcap would be a shame, and theyll need to resign big pieces aswell

2024-25 - $1,100,000
2025-26 - $2,300,000
2026-27 - $2,600,000
2027-28 - $1,500,000
2028-29 - $1,500,000
2029-30 - $1,500,000

Saddling McDavid to an injury prone Jarry would be worse. The cap is going to go up 4-5 million each year for the years ahead so the buyout isnt that bad.

Having a Jarry as a back up making 5.4 million would be way worse.

Revenue was 6 billion for the NHL. if the revenue is split 50/50 with the players that means that the cap should be 96 million. But the NHL only allows the cap to increase a certain % each year thats why it will only be 87.5 million. The Next CBA is going to force the cap to rise substantially.

I'm looking at Vegas' cap situation next season, they're a little thin at LW at the moment and have between $5-6M in cap space without re-signing any of their UFAs. Mantha, Marchessault, Martinez, and Stephenson are all likely out of their price range. Mantha perhaps could take a discount to stay with them, but Reilly Smith at $3M with the retention would absolutely fit in their cap for next season.

I just used Edmonton as the first team I could find that could use another goalie and would have a bad goalie contract to trade in return. Jarry is absolutely a 1B at worst and he really wasn't that injury-prone this season. He was doing quite well (~15-20 range) UNTIL the team fell apart around the trade deadline. Also, supposedly one of the main reasons he didn't start the last 13 games is because he stared down Marcus Pettersson for like 5 seconds in the Dallas game on March 22 after a puck got deflected by him and went in and it caused some locker room issues. He's a prime change of scenery candidate.

And for Edmonton, this would give them with a goalie room costing $9.9M. Right now it's $6.45M with Skinner and Campbell's buried $3.85M so they'd need to grab another NHL-caliber goalie. Do you think you can find another goalie to be Skinner's 1B for less than $3.5M?

They already have: Calvin Pickard. The current thinking is that Pickard will be re-signed and then he and Rodrigue will compete for the backup role.

Thoughts on what Pickard would re-sign for? Also, he's 32 and this was the first time he played more than 11 games since 2016/2017...

$1.5M or less is my guess.
