Berube Takes Over

Created by: KingExLeafs
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 28, 2024
Published: Apr. 28, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Substitute Teacher era of the Leafs is coming to an end. Keefe should go to Pittsburgh and learn how to coach under Sullivan as an assistant. The Leafs need a real coach behind the bench. Get Berube. Give him some defencemen, give him a goalie, and this team with Matthews and Nylander at the helm will be a true contender.

BUF
  1. Tavares, John ($5,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
A tough conversation has to be had with JT. Leafs need to move in a different direction and give the C to Matthews. JT has to be a big boy and realize the time has come to move on.

  1. Chychrun, Jakob

OTT
  1. Marner, Mitchell
Additional Details:
Marner to Ottawa makes the most sense to me for 2 reasons. 1) Tkachuk on his line will create room for Marner and allow him to create his magic. Kyperos has often mentioned that Marner will excel even more with a power forward on his line. And 2) The Sens need to make the playoffs next season and they need to bring in elite talent to play with their young core. Marner will help Stutzle and Tkachuk.

No. Acciari plays a role that PIT actually needs. Jarnkrok would just be taking ice time from younger players.

At that price and half retained Buffalo would have to think about that trade. I have my doubts that Matt Roy would sign anywhere for only $5 million, and teams will definitely offer him more.

Love the general scenario. I would probably try to get Brossoit in goal for that money, and worry that Lindholm's best years may be behind him (but maybe it's just a bad fit in Vancouver)>

Overall, a solid new direction if they could get those types of deals on the corpse four trades.

Spamming Ottawa in AGM with Marner trades doesn't make trading Marner to Ottawa any more likely.

Grow up.

I think you're on to something. Maybe sign a center for less than $7 mil, like Monahan instead of Lindholm and offer Roy more. OR, sign someone like Chandler instead of Lindholm get then get DeMelo for $5mil as right shot D.

Of all the teams around the league the Sens and Ducks make the most sense for a Marner trade. Ottawa is closer to home, and Anaheim couldn't be further away. Leafs management should give him these two destinations, let him pick, and make the trade. In a contract year he'll put up 100 points.

That doesn't matter. Leafs and Marner should rewrite the rules, and end the relationship amicably.

You have two options.

1. You can buy him out.

2. You can wait until he becomes a UFA.

You can't force a trade upon a player with a NMC.

No matter how many times you post it in AGM ...

It's not forcing a trade to a horrible team, it's having a mutually beneficial exchange wherein Marner picks where he goes in a contract year and the Leafs get back cap relief and a couple of picks. Win-win for both team and player.

If Ottawa is a horrible team, then it's even less likely Marner wants to be traded to Ottawa ...

Ottawa isn't. They're on the cusp of the playoffs with the right coach. That's why Marner could be convinced to waive to go there.

Tbf with Marner next years first SHOULD be 20+. Only happens if Marner extends here tho. I think Marner is good enough to warrant that haul.

Only happens if Chabot or Norris are in the deal . We can’t afford it

No for sure. Even if the deal happened as in this post, Norris would have to be moved somewhere else at the very least. Maybe Norris in a deal around Tomasino or Hayton? (I think Norris has higher upside than but higher risk imo so idk the value difference)

Outside prospective. But Marner is EXACTLY the type of player Ottawa should be swinging for.

For as good as Brady is, he's only a All-star level player. He's better served as the team's #2 then face of the franchise.

Stutzle is still young, and he absolutely has the potential to become that franchise 1C Ottawa drafted him to be, but he's going to need a much better winger next to him than Brady to elevate him into that next phase of his development. Marner, despite his playoff warts, is that level of player. He's already what you all hoped Debrincat would be in Ottawa.

With all due respect to Batherson and Giroux, they're not capable of doing this for Stutzle. Marner can. He'd be the best piece Ottawa could hope to get their hands on to further Stutzle's development into that 1C.

Ottawa should do this trade in a heartbeat. That said, maybe swap out Chychrun for Norris, if it's that big an issue though.
