I think every team should consider to take Liljegren for a 4th round pick

You are right... former 1st round pick, and consider his counterpart went to WSH for a 1st 2 years ago... He is likely worth a 3rd.

CHI isn't interested in moving Jones or acquiring Marner.

You think Jones is interested in losing for 2+ more years? Marner would put Bedard on steroids... Please provide context to why you think that

Why would the Hawks trade Jones, a minute munching #1 RD who plays in all situations and has 6 years left on his deal for one year of Marner? Even if Marner and Bedsy light it up next season, Hawks still don't make the playoffs. And then Marner walks and what are the Hawks left with?

Because the Hawks retain 50% on Marner at the TDL and trade him for at least a first and a good young player or prospect. This move would make sense for Chicago

If Marner gets hurt, then what? They're out their #1 RD and they've got damaged goods they can't even trade. Way too much risk for Chicago.

Well that assumes Marner is open to waiving again for a 2nd trade. And then all you've really done is traded Jones for a late 1st and a prospect. Sorry, still rather keep Jones.

That's a minimum. Marner could easily fetch a 1st, 2nd and prospect or 2 firsts...maybe even more

The Jones contract will not age well as we all know. Yes, there is risk Marner gets hurt but his history doesn't suggest that.

Sure. Only if that actually happens, though. It would all have to be discussed prior to the trade and Marner would have to sign off on CHI being able to trade him at the TDL ahead of time. Then, and only then, would a 1 for 1 type of deal make sense.

That is not true. We don't know that. Jones contract has been just fine. And with the cap going up, and being on a team with a ton of cap flexibility already, it will become even more manageable. Even if we have to pay Bedsy a max contract and give Korch and Nazar $8 to $10M we will still have a lot of space. Three to five years from now the cap will be over $100M, maybe even well over.

Maybe... Unless he severely limits his destinations, and the other team bends a CHI team desperate to move him over a barrel.

All in all, if Jones asks for a trade, I would rather just move him for positive value and not swap him for another contract with no guarantee of recouping anything. We don't need Marner.

Bedard's history didn't suggest a broken jaw either but one wrong play and look what happened.

I'm not looking at it in totality of the team cap spend, simply from Jones earning his $9.5M cap hit. He's not getting better at his age and he's already overpaid by $1.5M to $2.5M which is only going to get worse as father time marches on

Highly doubt Jones is tradeable for positive value. He's overpaid, there's no disputing that around the league.

And with D contracts on the rise and cap on the rise, the deal probably doesn't get better/worse until the very end. And that is when you look to move him.

Remember Seabrook? Another Stan Bowman blunder. If we have a chance to grab Marner for Jones, and flip Marner at the tdl for a couple of 1sts or a 1st and a good prospect, Hawks do it without thinking twice. No way does jones return positive assets today and down the road it won't get that much better. Hawks are rebuilding clearly, and moving a boat anchor contract for a couple of 1sts is not even remotely something to think twice about.

Think about this another way. In the last year of his contract, Jones will be 35 years old and eating up roughly 10% of the anticipated cap ceiling. Would you sign Kane next season for $8.5M for a year? Likely not, and Kane is 2 to 3 times the player Jones ever was and ever will be. Also, think about in the summer of 2025 and summer of 2026 without the Jones contract and what the Hawks can do in free agency with the extra space when quite a number of really good players become UFAs. $9.5M gets a heck of player.
