Interesting. This is roughly something Minnesota would consider depending on who they like at 5.

If the Wild really like someone available at 5 or somebody like Levshunov drops, the Wild would very much consider this.

That's okay, Harris and Farrell aren't worth their draft positions anymore either.

Rossi is still a 22 year old middle six center, at worst (played like a 2C most of this season), with the potential to become much more.

Guerin and Hughes, would have to discuss what to do with Colorado's 2nd round pick, if they disagree on the value of Rossi. But the structure of the trade would still have to look something like this. Otherwise Guerin just says no. (Also really depends on who is available at 5OA). I don't see Minnesota parting with Rossi unless they get at least 12OA value for Rossi. (The 12OA has a value of 30 [PuckPedia Perri Pick Value Calculator] and the 13OA has a value of 28. So you could drop Colorado's 2nd from the Habs side of the trade, and the value is about equal from both sides.)

Harris could fetch a 2nd at the right moment. Higher than his draft slot (71OA). Which is why I valued him higher (at 42OA). Maybe a bit too high...
Farrell is probably still worth a 4 round pick, 100OA is probably what the Habs view him as still ... maybe Guerin also disagrees.

If the 5OA is worth [50], Harris is [3.25], Farrell is [0.75], the total is [54]
If Rossi is worth [30] and the 13OA is worth [28], the total is [58]

Minnesota will have to give up 3 to 4 points of value to move up, like the Maple Leafs did in 2008 to move up from 7OA to 5OA with the Islanders.

Like I said, it's something Minnesota would consider, but that has nothing to do with Harris and Farrell who are basically non-factors in this deal as presented.

thats true, i like rossi a lot. i think in terms of value its Mtl first, then by a very slight margin minesota's pick then rossi. I'm just saying using pick value for drafted players is not very accurate.

Kent is not going to find someone who is 262cm and 124kg. Not sure this type of prospect exists, neither is that size effective for hockey. Pretty sure Slafsquatch is the closest, and we already have him.

(FYI Slaf is 10% taller, 25% bulkier than Rossi. Having lots of size with less skill is also quite useless. Demidov is a couple kilos lighter than Rossi by the way. Rossi showed up to camp at 86kg and he is a 2C, )

I appreciate the sentiment that you desire size.
Let's say Celibrini, Demidov, Lindstrom and Levshunov are gone in the first four. Who would we draft that has size, is a forward, that we are not reaching for. Minnesota could use a defenseman in their system, I'd rather trade down, get Rossi, and draft a player like Greentree, Iginla, or Sennecke if any of them are available at 13. (And even if Lindstrom is available, his injury history concerns me a bit, we already have Dach in our system.)

If my choices are [Catton or Eiserman at #5]

or Rossi + [Greentree, Iginla, Sennecke or even Basha at #13] I'd consider both options very carefully. (Even Eiserman still might be available at 13, who knows.)

Let's say this... Do you want Berkley Catton (5'11, 75kg) at 5OA or Rossi (5'9, 86kg) and potentially 6'2 Greentree or 6'2 Sennecke at 13OA or any of the aforementioned players (Iginla, Basha ... Eiserman).

You could even draft Julius Miettinen at #13, preferably at #27 from Winnipeg though, for size, 6'3 (190cm) + 207lbs (94kg). (But Craig Button does have Miettinen ranked 17th overall.)

oh definitly id love to trade down. its always been so expensive to move into the top 5

i think my fav player is cole so not MY sentiment per say but ive read a couple articles that say kent is specifically targeting size.

i like sennecke myself.

I also quite like Senneke myself.

Kent might want size. But I really hope regardless of the situation, that we don't draft Sennecke or Greentree for size at 5OA.
Rossi at 85-86kg is someone I think Martin St Louis would be thrilled to have on his 2nd line and then we could nab someone else with the 13OA, I would take a bet on Cole Eiserman if he is still there.

(One of Eiserman, Iginla, Sennecke or Greentree should still be on the board at 13OA. If not go for Basha, Boisvert or Miettinen.)

i imagine he packages a lhd (harris, struble) and the alte first for a dach/newerhook player, and im willing he will be over 6 feet tall.

im in the 'go get zegras' camp. but mostly for the great entertainment id expect from cole and he being reunited.

Albeit entertainment value, it makes no sense for the Ducks to trade away Zegras. You might be able to pry away Sam Colangelo for the right package. (I am pretty sure that Max Jones and Isac Lundeström are also available, but don't see why the Habs would acquire them.)

I don’t see why MTL would do this instead of picking at 5.. if the Habs want to add another diminutive forward, might as well draft Catton at 5 and keep the young Ds

Agreed, but I’d target someone else than a 5’9” F
