The only person worth being traded is Ullmark. The other trades aren't needed at all

For their contracts/values, I don't know why you would give up Freddy and Beecher for that.

Just get rid of Coyle, Zacha, and Geekie. Hard to watch this postseason. Or at least find a way to keep them in the bottom 6.

Blow it up usually means you trade everything and go into a rebuild. You've kept the best players and signed more. This isn't a blow up, it's a re-tool

I mean he is blowing up the defensive structure by re-acquiring Torey Krug so give him that...

Idk, this one just seems like a normal offseason

Caps have no Pastrnak to put him between, if you want a 35 point 3c just play Lappy and McMichael more

I was thinking he would be a good stop gap for the time being to have Strome, McMichael, Zacha and Lapierre would be a great center core. Give some time for the Caps organization to draft positions other than center and build the rest of the pool up and then get a center when Zacha's contract is over, or take one when you cannot pass one up

They don't need stop-gaps in the middle 6. McMichael is 23, Lapierre is 22 and both have clearly outgrown the AHL. If they can't be at least comparable to Zacha over the next two seasons then you've got much bigger problems and I also don't want one of the three playing a sub-optimal role for their skillset on the 4th line. I just don't get the urge to bring in even more good complimentary guys at F when they only have one real driver in Strome to play them with.

How would you personally view the Washinton depth charts at center? Personally I have it
Strome
McMichael
Dowd
Lapierre
(Only the top 4 I included, but Protas can easily also play center)

I don't think you understand what a blow up is lol A blow up would include trading Pasta, McAvoy, Swayman, etc.

Also, going younger when you have Marchand at the tail end of his career and Pasta/McAvoy in their prime seems kind of stupid. If you are rebuilding, those are the guys you are trading and I don’t think the Jacobs family wants to become the Sabres.

We can and should supplement our core in free agency. I’d like to see a couple of top 6 forward talents added

That Frederic deal is beyond seems way off. Krug is a negative contract

I think you're looking at:
Strome
Lapierre
McMichael
Dowd

Lapierre and McMichael are somewhat interchangeable but I think Lappy showed higher offensive upside than McM. Dowd obviously as the "4" c but really just the center for that checking line role. Protas, Malenstyn, Sgarbossa can fill in if absolutely necessary. Do I feel comfortable with that? Not really, but it's also number 3 on my list of needs for the team and certainly less of an issue than say another top pairing defender or a goal-scoring winger. The big thing is that I only see Zacha or a Zacha-type marginally improving the floor of this team while limiting its ceiling. You bring in Zacha and then you're running:

Ovi-Strome-Wilson
Lapierre-Zacha-Protas
Milano-McMichael-Oshie/Miro
Malenstyn-Dowd-XXX (assuming NAK, Sutter, or another checking type)

That leaves basically one other spot to improve the forward group IF Oshie is done and IF Leonard doesn't sign and IF you send Miro down to another full season in Hershey. It just functionally isn't much different to me then the forward group you ran in the playoffs. Even if you want to bring in a Bruin, I'm spending a little more cap and not giving up a second to bring in DeBrusk who I think has a profile much more suited to WSH's needs than Zacha

Also, as a sabres fan, I would love if you guys gave a goalie, any goalie an 8 year contract. I do hope that part comes true.

Why wouldn't the Bruins give Swayman an 8yr contract? He's only 25yrs old and not even in his prime yet. Since breaking into the league he ranks (min 100gp)

SV% - T3rd
GAA - 2nd
SO - 10th

He's arguably a top 5 goalie in the NHL and he's having a monster playoff run and a MASSIVE reason Boston even got out of the first round.

Why not 8 years? Because he is a goalie.

And even at 8yrs the deal take him till he's 33yr old. He'd still be at worst (barring some career altering injury) an average starting goaltender.

Idk, I've never been a fan of giving goalies long term deals. Ever haha. So if teams in my division want to, I'll take it.

TBL gave Vas a long term deal and it seemed to workout pretty well for them. I don't think FLA would complain with Bob on a long-term deal, nor would WPG w/ Hellebuyck. Bruins gave Rask a long-term deal and I think it turned out pretty well. It all depends on when you give a goalie his long-term deal. If you're giving a 7/8 year deal to a 30yr old goalie, then ya its pretty much doomed. Giving a proven 25yr old goalie a long-term deal doesn't carry nearly the same level of risk/concern.
