Rossi is gonna cost Lapierre or McMichael plus. Would rather not make that move in that case. Columbus's asking price for Laine is going to be higher than what anyone would be willing to or should pay for him. They wouldn't take this deal but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable watching the caps give up more. It's probably better to go after a guy like Reinhart, Duchene, Guentzel, etc. in free agency than spend the assets for a question mark. I like the Pesce add.

Laine has way more value to that to Columbus. Especially with retention for 2 years. That’s an easy pass

I never see the logic in trading for another center and moving McMichael to the wing. He's just objectively not good at playing the wing. The Caps should be solely focused on filling in the two open RW spots anyway as there's not enough roster space for another center, even if it is a top 6 guy, Lapierre needs to play.

That’s a fair assessment from a non-jackets fan of laine. Jackets aren’t going to sell that low on him but no team will pay what he’s worth when healthy. Jackets don’t need the cap so are better off hoping he can stay healthy and have a rebound season and get more value for him next offseason or next trade deadline

McMichael (and honestly Lapierre) aren't good enough to justify not getting upgrades where you can just because he needs a center spot. Obviously a RW would be best but they're in no position to be picky
