That's probably around what the AVs would want if they were ever gonna trade MacKinnon...

Obviously no. Canes aren't giving anything to take cap dump, thought Plekanec is OK as a player. Montreal has some highly paid players, and then many, many unproven NHLers, Very few modestly priced difference makers with a NHL track record which would be attractive in a trade.

Goalies have a fraction of the trade value skaters do an Price just signed one of the worst contracts in NHL history.

Mackinnon would probably cost Galchenyuk, Juulsen, a forward prospect and a 1st round pick

its a 1 year deal for Plekanec and they are giving up almost nothing. If he has a bounce back year hes a helpful player in getting to the playoffs or a useful trade chip on an expiring contract. Not saying it is going to happen, but if Montreal retained 1.5 million and asked for a 4th, I'd think about it. Thats 4.5 million for one season. If he puts up 40 points its worth it.
