Get over Schmidt, Snowflake

Created by: Eli
Team: 2017-18 Washington Capitals

Description
His jersey number is often used as a racist dogwhistle: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2008/10/white_supremacists_by_the_numbers.html

He has eight goals in his NHL career. Eight. Kevin Shattenkirk has 68. Karl Alzner at least has 19. Yes, he was a surprisingly decent defenseman on a cheap contract. Now he's an average player on an average contract, and the Caps will be fine with above average players from Hershey replacing him, and their locker room will be better off without the appearance of racism. Or have other Caps fans forgotten how guys like John Kordik and Chris Simon self destructed? This franchise was the first to integrate since the league expanded (all credit to Boston and Willie O'Ree, but somehow it all stopped there until Abe Pollin integrated the Caps). Schmidt will have a fine career in Vegas, and play lots of minutes while they tank seasons. Meanwhile Hershey has an NHL ready offensive defenseman in Christian Djoos, an NHL ready stay at home defenseman in Tyler Lewington, and two almost ready, potential top pair defensemen in Madison Bowey (who played for Team Canada at World Juniors) and Lucas Johanson (their recent first round pick). All of the above are better than Aaron Ness, a 27 year old with 39 games of NHL experience, who probably won't break out of Hershey this year. Losing Alzner and Shattenkirk in one summer would decimate most teams, but neither of them played as much this Spring as Orlov, Niskannen, or Carlson (http://www.espn.com/nhl/team/stats/_/name/wsh/cat/avgTimeOnIce), so... the Caps will be absolutely fine on defense. They need two guys to move up and play 15 minutes a night. They have six guys who are ready to do that, if you count Chorney, who already does, sometimes, but will almost definitely be passed over by prospects this year.

Racist? You're trying to find too much here. I agree with Derek. Is Patrick Kane racist? Brent Burns? People are over the loss of Schmidt, not sure what you're complaining about. Caps fans know that giving Bowey and Djoos opportunities is a good route to take.

This is the liberal media talking. Nate Schmidt isn't racist. Neither are others who wear numbers that are related to racist organizations

In science, empricism is governed by a concept called Occam's razor. You could guess that all of these guys chose that non-traditional hockey number because they're fans of Lindros, who chose it as a tribute to Wayne Gretzky's retired number, 99, which was itself a close-but-not-too-close tribute to Gordie Howe... and to evaluate that you just have to look at which of those guys, like Lindros, base their game on being the biggest, toughest, meanest guy out there, running everybody over, taking big slap shots, and crashing the net until the goalie can't stop pucks anymore. But it's none of them.

So I never liked Schmidt. I thought his minutes were too numerous if he had one. I respect his abilities. He was able to figure out that, as long as opponents double covered Ovechkin instead of putting somebody on him, he could hold the puck and skate through the neutral zone, and look almost like a dime-store knock-off of Joe Juneau. And for a second I'd be pretty happy about it, until the camera showed his back. Now that there was an armed Nazi invasion in Virginia this week, I'm pretty glad he's gone. Good riddance. Djoos, Siegenthaler, and Johansson will each do better.

Look, I don't pretend to know what's in another person's heart or mind, so all I can judge anyone by is what they show me. If someone's shirt says, "i stab Caps fans," I'm not bringing up hockey around them. You know? I'm definitely not saying that Kane, Burns, and all those guys are definitely racist. I'm saying the jersey number they all wear definitely makes them look racist. So either they're racist, or they're idiots. You tell me. Either way, glad the Caps won't have one this year.

Are you supporting racism? That is what the bold sounds like. Either they are racist or they are dumb for not being racist.

Associating numbers to racism is asinine and absurd. It doesn't make them look racist for wearing numbers that the KKK happen to use. Its like saying that anyone who also supports the idea that health care is not a right, supports Donald Trump, which my that means you endorse white supremacy.

Enough with the liberal and leftist media trying to brainwash people into believing everything has to do with race. Its despicable.

Also, I guess the entire RedWings organization is racist and supports white supremacy because white supremacists use their logo.

I think you're trolling with this racist number BS. If you're not, you're so pathetic I can't find words.
