GM Game 2017-2018: Montreal Canadiens

Created by: ricochetii
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2017
Published: Sep. 15, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Win now mode.

Status: Looking for depth improvements and futures.
I'm listening to anything, but main roster is pretty much set, so offer accordingly.

---------- Available -----------
Schlemko - 3rd/4th or equivalent prospect
Morrow - 6th/7th round prospect, prefer RW/RHD

Offers should include futures without having a negative impact on my roster. (ie: if you want Benn I'd expect a RHD that helps me now as well as a pick or a prospect).
If prices are high it is because I have no NEED to move anyone.

Players currently in the minors are negotiable (view Capfriendly team list: https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/canadiens)

------------ Wants -------------
- Missing picks
- The last 5 years back

----------- Directives ------------
- Build a contender
- Manage cap
- Restock picks

** Ignore lines and roster set up. I'll be playing with it a lot. **

----- Player Rights -------
F: Naatinen Pezzetta Cates Vejdemo Ikonen Trunev Friberg
D: Koberstein Staum Henrikson Tyszka Walford Fleury Brook
G: Hawkey

----- Notes -----
I own the 2nd (WSH - 2018) from the conditional picks in the Drouin/Sergachev trade.

Going to hang on to Fleury. Poehling and Bitten are negotiable. Might be interested in Senyshyn and I'd like to recover a 1st round pick in 18, but 19 is a possibility as well. Have anything in mind?

I think Seny is more valuable than Poehling tbh. and bitten isnt worth a 1st.

I agree. I wasn't making an offer, just letting you know what I'm interested in. Which piece you want to start with would determine where we go from here.

That's too much for me. I'd do something like Poehling and Bitten for Senyshyn and Bukac. I'd be willing to add one of my extra 5ths in 2019 as well.

If you want to add Ikonen to that, I'd want at least a 2nd added from you.

Senyshyn Bukac for Poehling Bitten 5th or
Senyshyn Bukac 2nd for Poehling Ikonen Bitten 5th

Sorry. I think you value Senyshyn too highly, or at least significantly higher than I do. The Bruins were reaching when they drafted him in the first round. While trying to figure out his value and potential, everything seems to fit the profile of a 2nd rounder or late 1st at best. That asking price is too much of a risk.

If you're willing to move a 1st, I'll give up Poehling for Bukac and a 1st. I don't see anyone else I'm particularly interested in.

We both knew it was only a matter of time lol.
Tampa's the early winners regardless (and probably the late winners as well). Sticking Out Tongue

The first option works if you have an attachment to Bukac, but can you handle the extra contract?

For the second option, I'd need another prospect back to balance the number of pieces. I'm losing organizational depth otherwise. Doesn't have to be Bukac, but he's the least valuable player I'm interested in because I'm lower on depth at that position.

... he refuses to report, for a while. Eventually both parties settle into an uneasy relationship, but the writing's on the wall. Yzerman trades Sergachev back to Montreal in 2 years, where Montreal proceeds to play him at center. Sticking Out Tongue

And Montreal sends back their recently drafted prospect who proceeds to tear up the league

No thanks. Forbort doesn't have enough of an offensive dimension to his game for me to consider him.
He might make sense for someone with a more offensive RHD (Karlsson?) as a partner, but the majority of my offense on the back end comes from my left side.

You sure? Weber is still a good offensive dman, while Petry is also passable offensively.

Would you be interested in this (it would be part of a 3-way):

                    To Montreal;
                    P.K. Subban (w/ $2 million retained)

                    To Florida;
                    Shea Weber
                    Joni Ikonen

You get a younger, cheaper, faster, more dynamic, and a shorter contract.

My first thought is hell yes, but every thought after that won't let me agree to it. I want to be at least somewhat realistic in individual trades, (even though I've overshot the mark in quantity of trades).
I don't think Subban should be traded with retention. I don't think Weber and Ikonen is enough for Subban with that retention.
I resolved myself to keep Weber early on and I've built my defense with him in mind as part of it. I'm satisfied with what I have now.
Subban is not coming back to Montreal during this contract. I think the organization burnt that bridge.

The only way I could do it is if Subban was not retained and I was satisfied with the return for all 3 parties. The rest I can work around.
What would the entire deal look like right now?

Popugayev somewhat. I'd like to pick up a 1st round pick somewhere as well. Was there anything you were interested in?

Ahh. Check description. I'm not doing any heavy shopping. Might make minor tweaks here and there, but I'm mostly working on my depth pool right now.
