<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>The reported price of a 1st rd pick. It is decidedly bad business to pay a 1st rd pick for a 4th line guy. He has zero 30pt seasons and he isn’t going to be the 3C with Colton in place. Throw in Bednar plays the 4th line less than 10 minutes and you know that goes down in the playoffs. Throw in COL needs a guy to drive play, at least with guys like Monahan and Henrique they have a history of it.
I think it would be poor asset management, I mean he played 17 minutes last night and I didn’t notice him.</div></div>
i don't think you really watched the game if you didn't notice him. He was +1 with 17mins of ice time had an apple in a 6-3 game with 65% faceoffs, while throwing more hits than anyone on the avs roster. He was noticeable to say the least.

I personally wouldn’t do either, I’d roll the dice on some one like Roslovic or pony up and try and get Frost or Mittlestadt.</div></div>
when we won the cup in 2022 we traded our 1st, 2 2nds, 3rd, jost, helleson, barron and timmins. no one even bats an eye after because we won. I'd say i have less going out right now and if we win the cup this year no one thinks twice about whats going out. Plus to get mittlestadt or frost you'd have to give up atleast what i've got going out so i don't really see your argument about the amount.
Roslovic and henrique is a pretty lateral move i'd say except you have a better idea of the player you're getting with henrique. plus dowd looked really good last night and is a big step up from our current 4C and with retention is a great deal for two years.

i mean i'd assume anahiem buys him out next year, with nashville paying half it's like 1mil cap hit. this year is already a wash for you

Thinking out loud
i'd be more interested in making a trade for him next year since we won't have as many depth players but this doesn't really help the 2C issue. Might as well just put colton there if we're going to push 3rd line players up

2022-23 TDL Approach Redux
i'd like colorado to add dowd for sure, i think they'd be looking for some salary retained though if they're moving a first for a 4C. With his cap hit at 1.3 i don't think it wouldn't be anything really that noticeable for the caps next year but i'd think something around 500k.

i think frank needs to go back to nhl24. That center line is not deep at all, you can insulate them with the best wingers but that's still an issue

i don't mind them either, hopefully frost could build into that 2C. With that being said and his age into account, does that make ritchie available for trade?
The only other thing is i'd hate to trade for kahnonen and then see him walk right after. I really don't see us resigning geo since his price tag will go up. If we are in talks for kahnonen i'd be asking to speak with him about how much his next cotranct would be. I'd hope it would be around the same since his numbers haven't went up but i think in our system he'd basically be another geo. So it would all be on the resigning amount for me haha because that would saolve the goalie problem for another 2/3 years

if they were to retain at least a mil i'd be interested in it, but i don't see that happening from their side and i don't think we'd want to pay what they ask for 3 years of retention. Without it though i don't think you're getting a legit 2C or bang for your buck for 5 mil.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Kampff has 3 not one not two but THREE more years. In that time frame Mikko gets a new contract, Byram gets a new contract, LOC gets a new contract you get the point. RyJo has gotten progressively worse yes, but worst case scenario you buy him out he is a $2M cap hit the next 2 years. Better to rip that band aid off and be done with the pain of it instead of just prolonging the agony.</div></div>
i mean that's missing the point. You're gonna have to pay someone to play 3C regardless. Odds are ritchie won't be ready for the responsibility in a year and a half from now. If kampf hits in this scenario 2.4 is a very good contract for 30 points and two way play. Right now we're paying colton 4mil for probily no more than 45 points and he's on term for the same amount. Is that a terrible contract as well? We're not going to be able to bring in someone for 1 mil off the market to play 3C or even 2nd line wing if you want to keep colton there. You'll either have to cough up probily more money to get someone to play those 2 positions or trade solid assets to get someone. I don't know if it will work, like i said before i don't really pay attention to toronto but 2.4 for solid 3C play is a good deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>Yeah, by over $1M; that's a decent veteran 4th liner.</div></div>
haha good grief you guys are acting like its james neals last deal, it's 2.4. I mean i don't watch toronto enough to know anything about kampf but i think treveling made it look worse by signing more centers and he got burried 4th line there. I'd bet he would be fine at 3C in our system and be able to play solid 2 way between wood and kovalenko who are not the first back in the play. 30 points for a 3rd line center for 2.4 playing solid 2 way hockey is a pretty good deal on a cap strapped team i think, but who knows i guess i don't watch toronto.
also i think it would be one of girard or byram over manson mostly because value wise they both hold more but the main point is all our prospects are basically girards and byrams. Even with manson sometimes throwing the puck away for no reason he's been very mobile this year and will bring the physical edge we all loved when we won the cup.

One of the perks of the RyJo gamble was that he only had one extra year of term. After next season, you need cap space for Rantanen’s mega-extension and whatever happens with Byram. You can get a 4C for $1-1.5M cheaper, which gives you more breathing room to keep your core under contract.</div></div>
I actually have him moving to 3C next season and colton moving to 2LW. I think between woody and oconnor, kampf would be more than capable to provide us a competent 3C role.
