Well, dealing with it on their own means trading it...so I don't think what you're saying is incompatible with my trade. That said, if Buffalo has seven better D then yea I agree that wouldn't make sense for them

Off Season Prediction 160522
I'm honestly quite curious to see what happens with him; on the one hand it's probably a bad contract, on the other hand a team with lots of cap space can easily take that on and get a prospect in return. I don't think it's out of the question, but we'll have to see

I think people aren't taking into account how much Eichel's value has dropped. He can't get surgery until he's traded, so he wont play for at least this season with recovery time even if he gets traded now. That severely drops his value, plus that we don't know how he'll be post surgery. Team's can't afford to take that risk, so Buffalo will have to get much less than initially expected. Friedg made a good point that conditional picks probably need to be involved

Interesting..I think this shows how difficult it will be to sign Rielly. I don't think Spezza is at a point in his career where he can handle centre, even 4C. I really like Brooks and would love to see him turn into a good scrappy 4C. Even so, the depth here is very dependant on how Sandin, LIljegren, Brooks, Amirov, and Robertson continue to develop

Opening Day
I like this. I think a huge question for us this year is, "is Kerfoot a reliable 3C?" If we get playoffs Kerfoot we're golden, but regular season was very underwhelming. I think the move is start with this line up and then shift it up until we find a good third line.
I love the 4th line. Ideally Spezza would get a greater opportunity to show his skill, but his experience and smarts could be huge on a defensive 4th line.

Some ppl saying this is bad for Seattle, which may be true, but also how does this benefit the Leafs? Dermott is currently a very decent 3rd line RD option (he's left but has played right). Liljigren is unproven and I'd take Dermott over Carrick any day. I'm down to drop Engvall but Bastian seems like more of what Dubas acquired a ton of this summer - middle six possible upside possible dud players

Finish this roster out
This team is so good even without Kessel. If they can offload Gardiner for something small even having that cap space would be huge (not cuz I don't like Gardiner, just that the Canes are so stacked on LD)

TEAM CANADA
Looks fun. As a Leafs fan I'd die to see Marner-Tavares on a 3rd or fourth line. I also wonder if subbing O'Reilly and Couturier in as shut-downish 4th liners could be good, considering how skilled the top 3 lines would be.
Out of curiosity, when did Pelech become a star? He gets so few points but I keep hearing analysts saying along the lines of "one of the best D in the game." What does he do so well?

So many haters but I'm fully in support of at least trying this out. Our biggest issue in the playoffs was scoring, and having a stacked first line didn't help that. Three balanced lines where we get the most out of Kerfoot and maybe Kase could be what this team needs. It would also allow different matchup options for Keefe.
At the very least, Dubas deserves credit for giving Keefe a ton of options for how to deploy the team this year

They ended up doing 4-4-1, which makes me think/analysts have said they have a deal in place for Seattle to take Kerfoot

If Kerfoot is taken, it means we did 4-4-1, which in turn means we exposed McCann. If we expose McCann, it makes way more sense for Seattle to take him.
Also ya, Danault is expected to get much more

What the Leafs should do if they are going to tank next season
Not sure I understand...how is this team going to tank? They have two top 5 scorers and two more high level forwards plus a solid D core. At worst they would miss the playoffs by a little bit and end up with a middle pick, and have wasted a year of Marner, Nylander, and Matthews' contracts and Tavares' age

Best Value no ELC
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Octopus_Guy</b></div><div>This is a cool team. I agree with you on most of the players.
Hyman for sure, MacKinnon yes, the goalies yes.
8.5 for Draisaitl is a lot of money I'm thinking if I'd say might as well do McDavid
for 4 more million for almost 2 points per game this year is a better value but it looks like you were trying
to come in under the salary cap, good job on that.
Before I even looked at your team a guy who comes to mind for me is Spezza.
I wouldn't call myself a fan of the Leaf's but I enjoyed watching them this year.
Spezza always stuck out as a guy who works very hard and leads well.
He's on a hometown discount of the league minimum.
At the age of 38 he only missed 2 games this 56 game season & had 30 points.
For the team I saw the most of this year (Red Wings) my choice on value would be Adam Erne.
I'm not saying he would replace anyone on the team you have here just saying
he had a nice year being paid a little under a million on a rebuilding team that wasn't very good.</div></div>
Spezza's a good choice. I had him in there but took him out cuz I thought my Leafs bias would shine through too much haha

Ya I had point and Toffolli but took them off. Toffolli maybe should be, but I was mostly basing it off of this regular season and Point was just a little worse than contract comparables like Scheiff and Marchand (even Barkov and Huberdeau would be better options I'd say)

I'm thinking Sandin and Lehtonen have to prove themselves in training camp. If one of them is ready, then sure, let's get rid of Bowey, move Dermott to the right side, and slide Sandin/Lehtonen into the left spot. But this is in case neither is ready.

I really don't get all this Holl hate. He plays great with Muzzin, he plays on the right side, and he's cheap enough that it's justifiable. Sure, I'd rather have Weegar; but we don't, so might as well keep our only right handed defensemen with significant NHL experience

What I want to happen
If Kapenen got a 1st, I think a starting goalie (Freddy) should fetch more than two 2nds. I'm also a big Holl fan so I wouldn't give him up, but that's just my preference. Also I think we could keep one of Kerfoot and Johnsson instead of signing so many depth guys, although I do somewhat like the idea of clearing up all the depth skill and replacing it with other types of depth that we're lacking

Dang I didn't realize he was that wanted. If he's any more than like 1.5 I feel like we can't take him. That said, I think 4 is a bit of a stretch considering his point totals. Either way, seems like he won't be here :(
