Utah is a Playoff Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marked_Difference</b></div><div>Geekie needs a year or two in the AHL to get used to the pro game. Hayton fills the 3rd line center role while he develops. Agreed that there is a goalie need but Ingram/Vejmelka has consistently been above average goaltending for the NHL. Having a star tendie is important but not as critical as it was 10years ago.</div></div>
Hayton is a bust and ran its course, needs a change of scenery, geekie coming faster than you think, only thing stopping him from breaking camp with the team next fall is roster spots, he’s next years Guenther if the opportunity arises. As far as goaltending I hand the reigns to Ingram and try to get the value out of veji ahead of extending him. Another project looking for an opportunity, possibly the heir in Florida that has gone through a rough patch. Arizona always gets best bang for there buck in net.

Weber to ltir should gain you cap, possibly time to move on from vejimelka, possibly Hayton also. Could be a place to bargain shop a goalie with potential to pair with ingram possibly one of the better bargains in the league. Geekie coming that may stay in the middle so I would possibly swing a little higher than McCann for 1c with the assets that you have. Some cap issue teams out there that may drop someone nice to you to alleviate the cap issues. Probably busiest team in draft and July 1

Fair enough, jets can’t make the deal either, need ability to have some competition in camp with some of the kids coming and or possibly ufa, roster spots are pretty full at the moment.

Deals expire at the same time, more value in iafallo as a rental at the deadline than armia, cap difference not here nor there.

As long as they don’t need the extension in place, I’m sure ehlers probably takes a flyer to rejoin laine for a year anyway, see where it gets too. New gm so probably wants to make some of his own mark on the team also, previous draft picks and ufa signatures are a little more tradable when the regime changes.

Would be kind of interesting if Columbus comes a calling and try’s to either add ehlers or ship laine back. 2x8.7 with minimal trade able value, got to have a plan to remove the burden or re energize the asset. Always tough to talk like this about people and peoples lives, but here we are. Not exactly sure what would be in the return, but always partial to rhd dman and centers with team control, maybe severson/sillinger blockbuster could be kind of interesting. Probably take some wheeling and dealing, but that is what summer is for.

Connor along with ehlers I’m guessing, part of me wishes we would be uncertain on helly and scheifele also. Perfetti/lambert could be interesting yet. Get so invested in this could be the year and then the same old results, build it so up and then be let down again.

All good, none of this trade idea will come to the light of day, jets headed to mediocre days and then long rebuild, just my own wishful thinking of a quick bottom out tear it down, and rebuild it fast and better. Our blueline is too small or our big guys aren’t mobile enough or have zero hands. Our forwards are something similar, and it all leads to decent regular seasons and early playoff exits. Not complaining, but just tough, when you’re not sure your team has the potential to ever win the last possible game of the year.

Utah is built, they need veteran leadership with a 5 year window ish of solid hockey, morrissey is a bargain, the other two are questionable bargains, coming off a vezina and some scheifeles best hockey could draw a overpay.

Would be all about the picks and the prospects and cap space, not actually the players and cap hits back. Change of scenery guys to just take a flyer on.

Get on the phone to Utah, helly/morrissey/scheifele is basically what they need, they have the cap and assets to make it work too. Craziest blockbuster ever, Hayton/vejimelka/soderstrom and picks and prospects. Then with the cap savings auction off ehlers/connor and anybody else in summer or by deadline and pick our way back in next 3 drafts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Agreed, I just don't think a Matheson acquisition for a Crouse package will hinder making any of those moves. Utah will have PLENTY of ammo to make those big swings.</div></div>
Just not quite sure if Crouse is expendable, they do have a few power physical forwards and a few scorers, but possibly a little light of the combination. A lot depends on guenther, doan, and geekie and how quick they come and how they hold up to stay. Doan started fast, and seemed like Guenther was turning the corner on legit, top 6 threat. Geekie with some ahl playoff time now, and good whl season, possibly dark horse rookie of the year if there’s room in top 9. Quite the transition for gm jobs, from outhouse to penthouse in a transaction, will be interesting to see how he approaches, old blues ties, so probably big physical squad with skill and speed mixed in, so will be wild summer.

Ya there’s going to be some regret for sure on Reinhart/guentzel/skjei/pesce not sure which one or all or none, but definitely some buyer beware with 7/8 year deals at 29/30 years old.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>You could use the same argument for Matheson. Not to mention Utah would probably prefer using their cap space on higher quality forwards (Marchessault, Toffoli, etc.) than overpaying for the available D market (Someone like Brady Skjei could be looking at upwards of $6mil aav deals...horrible). I don't think it can be understated just how valuable someone like Matheson <strong>at $4.8mil aav</strong> can be.</div></div>
I think Utah should shoot for a scenario that fell into Vegas lap of marchassault and smith basically just being offered up for nothing, change of scenery/change of cap hits or whatever it was. Couple of gifts, similar scenario is out there with the cap and assets they have. Tkachuk/chabot or a werenski/laine or something along those lines, good spot to take on a nasty back up goalie contract also if needed. Hayton/vejimelka/soderstrom along with draftpicks galore and cap for days would be my blockbuster. Try to find that early 20s 2c worth hanging a 8 year deal on and a number 1 or 1b, rhd or lhd dman to have around a while. Matheson not a bad add by any means, just in more of a bigger swing mode.

Fair enough good argument, same token can be said for a pesce add to Utah or a selling team that some token seconds would be suffice to add what is needed. If Utah swings for a guentzel or Reinhart, possibly a Crouse comes available, just to keep from blocking doan, Guenther, geekie. Will be interesting offseason with that many picks and cap to play with.

Utah in a interesting place, where they essentially want to bring the somewhat small nucleus of players to Utah, and add by trading draft picks they won’t have roster spots in the future for established top end defenseman that will slot down some there current defenseman, and possibly move on from Hayton and or vejmelka. Adding matheson doesn’t really do much for them, when they can probably just go buy what they are looking for with cap room. Depends on ufa splash and roster spots, if Crouse would be available, but rather perfect size term and experience for the kids coming up internally.

My answer was to moving on from him, ya you do just keep playing him til his contract is up or something changes.

Easier to buy skinner out, than ante up what is needed to take on 27 million or whatever is left, to trade skinner, probably need a laine or Huberdeau or someone in that 8 to 10 million dollar range in a blockbuster sort of scenario. Bomb for potential bomb.

Utah has the cap to just go buy guentzel or Reinhart and keep Crouse, only reason to move Crouse is to get rid of his cap hit for larger ufa shopping.
