He would be a perfect fit for Lambert though...He can play C if Lambert cant, he is a great PKer and decent on the PP.....plus he is a cup winner

Fire Bowner
I don't think he is returning even if the club wants to pick up the option. When he came back after his first absence, Bowness described his wife's medical episode as "life altering" and he detailed how he and their children (one works for the Avs [business side i think], one works for the Sens, and I think the other is not in hockey) were making sure she wasn't alone when he was on the road. Unless he ends up in Denver, Ottawa, or the city where his other kid lives, I think he is moving on from hockey and into retirement.
Edit: It might be the non-hockey son that is in Denver and their daughter might be with a different NHL team. I'd have to go back to Bones' interviews to see.

Logical offseason
I get the premise of the ACGM team here. I am not sure if this is a good path for Utah/AZ. Both players have the skill but worry me as people you want as face of the franchise types.
Not sure Marner would "fit" in Utah. He has shown significant ego over the years that I think would get in the way. He has also shown that he will pout and throw fits and that is not conductive as a face of the franchise.
Zegras is a very interesting, super high skilled player. I question if he is mentally tough enough for the NHL or if he has the drive to relentlessly train that is critical for sustained high level success. He could fizzle and be a drain on a franchise that cannot afford one.

I'm trying to think of the best UFA signings (excluding re-signings) that the Jets have made. I can think of Perreault (UFA because he didn't get a qualifying offer from Anaheim) and Kulikov.

Very few ownership groups approve aggressive rebuilds until the team has been floundering for years. The reason being is that rebuilds, even for large markets, is a major opportunity cost of financial loss. And it is even worse for most small markets. Plenty of teams should be rebuilding like Calgary, Pittsburgh, Washington, New York Isles, etc. They don't because ownership groups won't approve it until it is inevitable. San Jose was also a prime example of that.

Jets ownership has a theory of competitive keeps the status quo, where the fanbase wants a shot at winning the last possible game of the year. If they don’t choose rebuild, it is going to be forced on them ugly. Hopefully the scouts and development team is on fire to bring resources needed to put the team over the top.</div></div>
Fans don't care about the balance sheet and ignore the business realities of an organization. This site especially is bad at that. No ownership group in the league is remotely considering "rebuilding" after finishing 4th in the regular season standings. It's pure delusion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Answer me this, where would the jets sit if they let helly and scheifele go to free agency, possibly some token draft picks for jumping the line to talk contracts before July 1, then using the 17 million in savings combined with assets on nearing contract completion or a year or two out to free agency, moving them for bad contracts and picks and prospects til the cows come home. Take a page from the coyotes basically, but tear it down thoroughly and ugly, then with any luck there’s 4/5 extra firsts in next 3 drafts, and some of the ugly turns into something with opportunity and be back in the saddle by 2029, when hopefully and Dallas/colorado ready to give up the division.</div></div>
I cant understand most of what youre trying to ask/say but tank for Mckenna/Dupont

Always tough to talk like this about people and peoples lives, but here we are. Not exactly sure what would be in the return, but always partial to rhd dman and centers with team control, maybe severson/sillinger blockbuster could be kind of interesting. Probably take some wheeling and dealing, but that is what summer is for.</div></div>
That would be a wild move and would require a significant sales job by CBJ, as I suspect Ehlers would have them on his 10-team no list just given their recent record.

Tomorrow is the day for exit interviews / final media availability, so it will be interesting to hear Ehlers' thoughts on an extension (I assume the question will be asked) and what Perfetti says. Anything other than the typical talking points would make that day fun for the rumour mill.

Our blueline is too small or our big guys aren’t mobile enough or have zero hands. Our forwards are something similar, and it all leads to decent regular seasons and early playoff exits. Not complaining, but just tough, when you’re not sure your team has the potential to ever win the last possible game of the year.</div></div>
I think this will be an offseason of Ehlers extension/trade speculation and Perfetti offer sheet rumblings.

Yeah Brett Pesce this offseason just screams "overpayment needed to sign", either in salary or/and term. Lots of teams will be trying to sign him, wouldn't surprise me at all that he gets the max 7 years upwards of $7mil aav.

Its crazy how ****ing bad the Jets PK is, get that its the Avs but holy expletive is it useless.
The Jets forwards who kill penalties don't really know how to block shots, they don't keep their feet moving and just stand their flat footed while pucks get fired past them, just infuriating to watch.
They definitely should've tried the speedy Axel on the PK over slow ass Iafallo.

I don't know how you stop those two, staying out of the penalty box would help. The grind line is way too fukkin slow to shutdown McKinnon, maybe should've played Axel sooner to be his shadow or something Idk.
I posted exactly that here, both their agents sniffed around and found out no one was willing to pay top dollar and/or term for 55 and 37 and the realization was the only team that would was the team they were already on so they signed those brutal extensions, **** is Chipman a moron.. 🙄
Conner Hellebuyck could literally **** out a Vezina Trophy but until he steals some playoff games who ****ing cares how many awards he has, well I guess his ego cares.. lol

oh yeah Laine is the tougher one cause we dont know when/if he will be back. If he does come back does he want to stay here or go somewhere else? just a lot of unknowns. His value is at its absolute lowest right now, so i think our new gm would realize there isnt much benefit to us to trade him at this low value. We are better off hoping he can regain some value or become a productive member of our lineup.

Not vital to make this move work, but a need none the less.</div></div>
I mean yeah, Fetts is slow. Lambert, Barlow, and McGroarty are all either ready or 1-2 years away. The hope is that if KFC is gonna walk, the Jets get a good return for him.
I feel like this trade needs to be a Goldilocks scenario for both teams. I know the Jets would have to re-sign and not re-sign a very specific set of guys for it to work.
