LHD Trades

In the notes, Barbashev is the main piece. Scandella is likely sent to a 3rd team. I think Barbarshev for Edmundson is a good base for the trade. Other pieces could be added.

Despite the fact the value is off, how many NHL teams want to execute a four for one deal? Do you have need of those three players and one middling prospect? I can't imagine anybody wants a deal like that.</div></div>
"4 players we don't want"?? Loof is a solid LHD prospect, Barbashev is 25 and just put up 60 points, Kostin is mostly a throw-in, Scandella is still a solid bottom pairing guy (slightly overpaid). We can add a second round pick or something but it's not that far off.

Next Year
Our team already has too many RW as is...Buch, Tarasenko, Perron, Kyrou are all natural RWs. I understand all of them but Tarasenko can flip sides when needed but I don't think trading for Puljujarvi and signing him for 5 years is a smart move. We are trending towards a team that has an expensive top 4D and top 7-8 forwards. We won't have a lot of money to spend on depth 8-14 forwards. That was part of the reason to move Sundqvist.

Simple Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WeWentBlues19</b></div><div>I've been saying this all offseason and have made similar simulations. This shows how tight of a cap crunch the Blues are facing going into 22-23.
All early signs point to Perron wanting more $$$ than the 3.5M you have proposed here. Also have just enough cap for the 14th forward here. Some big decisions to make this offseason for sure.</div></div>
I could see Perron signing for 1 year, $5-6 million this year and then taking a very team friendly deal next year when we have to re-sign ROR, Vladdy, Kyrou, Thomas (at least 3 of the 4).

Trade for evaluation
Schenn has full NTC - doubt he waives for DET, but otherwise STL would have to take that deal purely as a cap dump. Schenn's contract won't age too well.

Top 4 LD
In order of who I want: Lindell, Sanheim, Chychrun, Provorov, Gavrikov, Graves, Petterson
In order of reasonableness both in terms of what we would have to trade and opposing team's position: Gavrikov, Graves, Provorov, Petterson, Sanheim, Chychrun, Lindell.
Basically, I feel like ARZ wants a fortune for Chychrun and DAL won't trade Lindell in division (if at all). PHI seems to love Sanheim/Risto pairing - probably bc Sanheim actually plays two ways unlike Risto.

Offseason time
If we sign Leddy for 5 years, I will cry. At max 2, maybe 3 years if the AAV is lower. His skating/speed is his biggest asset and that will slow as he ages.

Realistic Offseason
Might be semi-realistic but boy do I hope we avoid giving Leddy another Scandella contract. Also, unlike Armstrong buys out Scandella as I am sure he can offload him to someone. Would much prefer to trade for Chychrun, Sanheim, Provorov, Graves. Possibly even Sergachev if they decide to move him with 1 year left.

22-23 Barbashev to PIT
Scandella is overpaid lol - that was my point we paid him like a 4D and he isn't that. I don't believe Chiarot/Leddy/anyone really besides a Chychrun type move the needle enough.
Now, I wouldn't mind re-signing Leddy for 1-2 years and trading Scandella as a bridge to hopefully Perunovich ever being healthy.

22-23 Barbashev to PIT
I don't get the fascination with trading Barbashev - yes it's a career year for him so peak value but he is an affordable top 9 forward plus him, Buch, Tarasenko love playing on the same team. Would rather avoid another overpaid supposedly top 4 LHD and stick with Mikkola, Scandella, Perunovich, Rosen or someone else.

Zadorov or Kulak would probably be the best fits for a LHD, but really neither move the needle much. We would have to trade for Chychrun/Sanheim/Provorov or someone else to really make a change

Tkachuk
My thought process is - we wait another year til possible UFA for Tkachuk, we lose a prime year of ROR/Tank/Faulk/etc - most of our core. CGY will not take 1 year of ROR or Tank for a 24 year old 1st line winger. Also, unlikely we could afford paying $6-8 million a year for Thomas/Kyrou/Tkachuk unless we trade Binner or let Tank/ROR/Perron walk.
Also - CGY could convince him to resign with a massive deal or trade to OTT to unite with Brady and he might re-sign there too.

Even if for some odd reason, the Blues shipped out Binnington (his NTC would likely stop it anyway)...they would hold onto Hofer and pair him with Husso. Not going to trade your 1A goalie and your top goalie prospect.

Perron at $4M? Thomas at 2.8M? Heck, even Barbashev at 2.25M is better than Reaves. And that is just from STL.

NHL needs to do something soon
<a href="/users/chopper02" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@chopper02</a> - Blues are not aiming for the lottery this year. Our team is literally built to win in the next 2 years. After that, Thomas/Kyrou will be more expensive leading to Tarasenko/ROR/Perron potential departures.
No need to cancel games but at least give enough temporary cap space to field a full team when there are covid listed players. Can't help covid when everyone is vaccinated on the team.

Care to explain why? I know Chychrun is likely untouchable as ARZ will build around him but you're basically getting 3 first round picks and cap dump (could probably be flipped for late picks).

Keeping the team together next year
I think an upgrade over Scandella is the biggest thing they could do to improve. But that also means shipping out Scandella + picks/prospects and the "better" D coming back has to be similar salary cap to work. We don't have much cap tied in players that don't fit here anymore.

Opening night lines based off Preseason
Swap Tarasenko and Kyrou based on recent lines, but this looks like a dang good team. Never hurts to give Neighbours the 9 game trial before deciding if he can stick or go back to juniors.
Would expect Kostin to start in AHL if not given top 9 minutes. Could see Frolik being signed as PK specialist for 4th line.
Kind of expect MacMac to be sent to AHL and potentially Walman (although not sure he'd make it through waivers).
