<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>I'm not sure defensive oriented is our whole issue. Pesce's skating has been going, and while he's a reliable player or has been for a while, he doesn't help with our inability to be able to break the puck out. In this situation you're also essentially paying him 8m a year with the retention on Faulk for 3 years.</div></div>
Fair enough. I think we'd all love to move Krug/Faulk without retention but that is difficult to do when they can basically pick their destination (for one more year). We don't have many top 4 D prospects besides maybe Lindstein and he is likely 2 years away - so gotta sign someone to eat those minutes because I am not putting Kessel into 20 min a night for a full season.

Also, i'm not sure it makes sense to grab Sanheim even still without trying to include Krug in there again. That's still a jumbled mess of alot of term.</div></div>
Why not Pesce? Seems like a reliable top 4 RHD that is more defensive oriented than Faulk. Hard to move Krug (especially to PHI where he rejected already). Army felt Sanheim would be a fit last offseason, so why not this one.

Blues decline. Hofer is 23 and just played 30 games with a .914 save percentage. Would need a first or top defensive prospect to even consider.

Chychrun isn't a perfect target but if they could add 22 minutes from him every night, it could really improve the output of the rest of the guys that have been a little out of their depth. I still have some concerns about his durability but he finally played 82 this season so that's a nice surprise.</div></div>
Agreed. Not perfect, but wanted a fit where we are stuck with Leddy/Krug/Faulk for another year. Then when they go to M-NTCs, we can attempt to remove 1, 2 or all 3.

Fair enough. Debated on #16 or two 2nds. Not equal values obviously but doubt Doug wants to move the 1st. Maybe if a contract extension is basically in place.

Could literally be any team that he will accept a trade to or not on his trade list. It's a 6th rounder for a 3rd line center with a $1.8M AAV for 2 years. Not a big deal.

Moving Krug
Not a bad idea to look into bad contract swaps but as always, the NTC likely plays the biggest part in most of these. DET seems most feasible due to Krug's family being there and STL's need for C depth in the short-term until Dvorsky is ready.

Understand your other points, but does Krug say no? Rumored his goal was to be close to family (Detroit) and Columbus is certainly closer.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HolyJumpin81</b></div><div>I HIGHLY doubt the BUF or NYR trade would be accepted by those respective teams. The Krug trade makes no sense for either side, as the Blues probably aren't going want to retain almost a 3rd of Krug's salary for multiple seasons. Were better off buying him out at that point.</div></div>
To buyout Krug after this year, $333k cap hit for 24-25 and then $2.3M cap hit for 5 years. To retain on him, $2M Cap hit for 3 years. Why drag it out 6 years when he can be off the books in 3 years? He has some value at a lower salary.

Kakko hit 40 points once in 4 years. Every other year below 25 points. It's his 5th year and he has 4 points in 25 games. Kapanen has hit 30-40 points the last 5 seasons.
Keep Kakko, I don't really care much for him anyway but the offer is not laughable. Just because he was drafted 2nd overall does not mean 5 years later he is worth that pick. See: Yakupov and many others.

Army has really been beating the drum on the under 27 with multiple years of term (meaning 3+ years)...Not too many fit that bill. Keller and Connor are like the only ones I can think of.

This rumor just simply can't be true. Blues already have way too many 30-45 point wingers in Vrana/Kap/Saad/Blais and probably Neighbours with a full season. No reason to trade for another and give up high picks unless Briere is willing to take on some of our LHD contracts as well.

Konecny
Feel like Scandella has to be included in that package - can add another later draft pick if needed. Think this is contingent on Buch being a full time center or us moving Kap/Vrana or Neighbours/Blais in another trade. Too many wingers, not enough centers.
I like Konecny though. Fits age range and has some term on a good contract.

Don't see Chabot/Miller being made available any time soon, but agreed we need a young top 2 LHD. (hopefully can ship out Krug/Leddy)

Blues certainly don't need wingers but Connor at $5M for 3 years would be hard to turn down. Would require shipping out Scandella/Leddy/Kapanen elsewhere for cap space.

Sunny hasn't played much C since he left STL. Don't think Alexandrov is ready for 3C, but could definitely be the 4C. I just didn't know what to do with all our wingers. Truly don't believe Buch will be a full time center this season so wanted to sign someone that will take a 1 year deal who wins a majority of faceoffs that could be flipped at TDL if needed (i.e. Monahan, Haula).

Definitely a fair POV. I don't disagree but we also have Vrana/Kapanen/Blais as pending UFAs after this year and Buch with only 1 year.

He's 24, locked up for 5 years at a reasonable AAV for a PPG player. Cheaper than Kyrou/Thomas but with those 2 creates a top line all in 23-24 range that can each be PPG players.

Realistically, where would our top 4 defenders waive their NTC to go to? I'd love to move them but those NTCs are a b**ch.
Parayko: apparently only EDM
Krug: Detroit, maybe Columbus
Faulk: unlikely to trade, but probably Minnesota
Leddy: Minnesota, maybe NYI.

Provided they don't win a lottery boost, what position should the Blues take with their 1st pick (#10-12)?
My view on the draft is:
1: Bedard
2-4: Fantilli/Michkov/Carlsson
5-8: Smith/Benson/Moore
Not necessarily in the order listed but in those groupings.

Obviously depends on who is there, but draft seems heavier on forwards than defenseman in that range.
Ideally: Dvorsky is available as he is a center with size to actually stay at C. Seems like we draft a lot of "centers" that end up as wingers. If not, Brayden Yager.
If Reinbacher is available, hard to turn down him as well for the D side of things.

I generally like what you're puttin' down here, but I don't want Reinhart or to give a 1st, all of which makes paying to move Scandyman unnecessary. I might still do it because something has to be done, but I'd rather find another way.</div></div>
Can I ask why you don't want Reinhart? 1 year deal for a 27 year old center who has averaged 75 points the last two seasons in Florida? Good FO% this year as well although that seems line an anomaly. Worst comes to worst, retain 50% and flip at deadline along with Vrana/Kap. Feel like Krug with his injury issues is going to need a pick attached to him to move 4 years at 6.5 AAV. Scandella doesn't necessarily need to be moved and may cost less than a 3rd.
