TDL 3 way all in

with these moves they would have 15+ mill coming off the cap next season. Why not try and re-sign him. By ram wontncost as much as people think with his injuries and you could probably get a decent bridge deal to get you to the years where the cap expands.

Wishful thinking TDL
Don’t think this is a deal the Avs would go for. They LOVE compher and don’t think they deal their top Prospect and a 1st for a guy who doesn’t really fit their system.

Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>glarson17</b></div><div>I have zero sources into the team or any real knowledge on what Grier would be looking for. Like all the insiders, it’s just speculation based on the current state of the team. I could see them realistically retaining $2.5 mil a year with the cap going up. I wonder if a third team would retain like $1.5 mil, nothing crazy, on top of that to make Karlsson’s new cap hit $7.5 mil. If he continues to play the way he has now, that’s a steal for any team. I think in the short term they would likely have to take some cap back in a trade, but I would imagine they would want some good assets for him. Not a backup $10 mil goaltender but like 1st rounder and some prospects</div></div>
I think some fancy retention work could make it happen. That would help get SJ a better return. Any speculation on who is willing to trade for him?

Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>glarson17</b></div><div>San Jose giving up the two best pieces in the trade for what? Horrible. Add a couple 1st round picks….oh wait</div></div>
Honest question… what are sharks fans expectations on a return for Karlsson?
I think a trade is not likely but if a trade happens his contract and age in the current cap situation doesn’t give many options. I think if a trade is done it will be because Karlsson wants to go somewhere to contend and SJ loses a lot of leverage there. I don’t see SJ retaining more than a million or so for the remaining years, so the whole retain half or double retain with AZ will not happen.
Curious to know what the word around sharks fans are about what a realistic return would be.

Look to the future
All are expiring contracts. The idea is to shed those contracts and receive something in return. I think market for TDL will be lower than normal with many teams looking to shed.
I’m not a CBJ fan, so I am Curious to know what fans think would be reasonable returns

I debated adding a 1st but think the return isn’t as high as expected because Kane and trews are going to choose their places and give up some leverage bc of that

Horvat
I love the horvat fit at LW next to Tavares. I don’t think it would cost that much. Take out a 1st and that probably gets it done no problem. A third line of kerfoot jarnkrok and malign/Robertson would be a terror for some teams to deal with with the speed and solid defense they bring.

They can’t re-sign Horvat. COL did their big push in last year that emptied the cupboard (they traded a 1st, 2 2nds a 3rd, a 5th and their top 3 defensive prospects). Just don’t see COL doing that for Horvat. I could see a play for a winger that would be a cheaper price, because I also think COL management is accruing space so they don’t have to pay a premium on retention.</div></div>
The picks were 2024 and 2025.

One of the requirements of shipping Kling out is that we take a RD back the other way, so toss Holl in our deal.
We're short on top 6 capable LW, preferably a power forward, and big, hard hitting, defensive D, either side. Pick a prospect that checks one of those boxes.</div></div>
This helps! Appreciate the response. Throw in Holl and snag any forward prospect not named Matt knies.

Add size grit and win now pieces
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nathaniel</b></div><div>If Im trading Robertson, it is for a legit top 4 RHD defenseman with term, not Dmitri Kulikov. Both parties have been down that road, and with Kerfoot having a M-NTC, it is highly unlikely he ever finds himself in NJ</div></div>
Kerfoot not going to NJD makes more sense knowing that. Which top 4 RHD would you go get that fits under the cap and the team would be interested in Robertson. I think the Anaheim fit makes sense, but your options there are kulikov and klingberg.

Not sure, I’ve never done a kerfpot to NJD deal. He seems to fit what their style is. 🤷🏻♂️ Robertson is promising, but he is expendable if you are going to try to win this year.

Probably true, but getting proven talent requires overpaying sometimes. Leafs need a top 6 LW and if your going to get one, he might be the best blend of size age skill etc. you don’t feel good making the deal, but if that turns into a ring, no one gives a **** if you overpay :)

Sure, but getting a young kid who is local and has some potential would help them sell some tickets more than a 32yr old d man who will likely play elsewhere next season. Holl really is added for cap purposes and a body to fill in.

Barrie and foegele are what I consider camp dumps for EDM. Barrie is expensive for what he provides (basically a 3rd line RD and PP specialist. Bouchard makes Barrie replaceable. 2years at 4.5 is a decent contract to move. Not many suitors for him at that price. Foegele is essentially a replacement level bottom 6 winger. That might be the easiest type of player to replace on a low cap deal. Puljujarvi is destined to be on another team by the TDL. Wennberg fills a move valuable bottom 6 role and soucy is an upgrade to Barrie and has LD/RD flexibility and more trade value at the TDL if the fit doesn’t work or a young guy fills that spot.

Meyers-Compher-??? as the 3rd line is the real question mark for the Avs I think. Sedlak, Maltsev, Kaut, Ranta, and Olausson have a chance to make that jump.
Yes, I believe in trying to keep the Cogliano-Helm-O'Connor line intact.</div></div>
I think if they don’t sign a vet, they cycle the guys you listed through the third line with Myers and Compher to see what sticks, build up their trade value and if they need to acquire someone at the TDL they can

I agree, he is familiar with the team and city and would probably like a shot at the cup. Plus you could keep Compher and the depth pieces who would be useful in season to keep helm and Cogliano fresh
