Initial Creation Date: Nov. 1, 2022
Published: Nov. 1, 2022

In this scenario they plan to re-sign Meier and barbashev. Sacrifice some youth and assets to add the missing size skill and grit. They use COL as the example of weaponizing their youth for pieces to go for it now.

Even if they resign Meier's they are overpaying on the trade when SJ has no leverage

Sure, but getting a young kid who is local and has some potential would help them sell some tickets more than a 32yr old d man who will likely play elsewhere next season. Holl really is added for cap purposes and a body to fill in.

Robertson for Kulikov is a joke.

How many times will we go down the Kerfoot to NJD path? It'll never happen.

Probably true, but getting proven talent requires overpaying sometimes. Leafs need a top 6 LW and if your going to get one, he might be the best blend of size age skill etc. you don’t feel good making the deal, but if that turns into a ring, no one gives a **** if you overpay smile

Not sure, I’ve never done a kerfpot to NJD deal. He seems to fit what their style is. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Robertson is promising, but he is expendable if you are going to try to win this year.

If Im trading Robertson, it is for a legit top 4 RHD defenseman with term, not Dmitri Kulikov. Also, Kerfoot was drafted by New Jersey, but both sides decided to move on before Kerfoot signed with Colorado. Both parties have been down that road, and with Kerfoot having a M-NTC, it is highly unlikely he ever finds himself in NJ

If they are going to pay a big price for Meier, Knies and the 1st is more than enough to get the Sharks interested, they could add other things instead of Niemela.

Chances are that Meier makes no difference on whether the Leafs win it all or not anyways. They will then need to deal him for a partial refund, if they are lucky they at least get 2 1sts worth in value.

Personally, I like Robo and would take the deal.

Kerfoot not going to NJD makes more sense knowing that. Which top 4 RHD would you go get that fits under the cap and the team would be interested in Robertson. I think the Anaheim fit makes sense, but your options there are kulikov and klingberg.

Devils don't have the cap nor a roster spot available to fit Kerfoot in as of now.
Not that I'd be too happy to trade for a guy that snubbed the Devils in the past.

Blues decline that quickly. Why would they make a trade for nothing?

two problems with these trades: one, they don't make the leafs better, and two, none of those offers are sufficient enough for any of those pieces
