Lol as already mentioned, trade for a player who looks to be on the decline with a big contract makes no sense. A 1st, 2nd good prospect and a dman 1 year removed from leading all dmen in points for an older dman who’s at the age where most dmen tend to decline.
You don’t just make a move for the sake of it because “McDavid and Draisaitl are going to leave”. A 1st, 2nd and good prospect could get you a legitimate scoring winger, 3C or be put towards a starting goalie.
We already made a bonehead move for Keith at full salary. Having $12M tied up between Keith and Petry is just bad

Looking at New Year Oilers
I mean Minny is one of the best teams in the west and Talbot has been incredible for them…. Why are they moving him for a mid level pick?

playoff push
Would love to hear the explanation for both Bouchard for Kravstov and Puljujarvi for Jost.
Those are both very very very clear losses for the oilers. Bouchards been our best dman the last few weeks and is on his ELC. Puljujarvi is also way way more proven than Kravstov and had a higher ceiling.
I can’t see a single reason how these benefit the oilers

Offseason Flat Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rpain</b></div><div>Why do the Oilers trade a 2nd for Jake "similar statistics to Mikko Koskinen" Allen?</div></div>
At least they are starting to realize his value. A few weeks ago it was a 1st and prospect. Then just a 1st, and now a 2nd..
If the end of the offseason arrives and Holland hasn’t been able to land an actual upgrade, I’d consider moving a 3rd or 4th for Allen
But I agree. Allen is not a starter… oilers aren’t interested

Blues, Oilers and Panthers trade are just about as far off as you could imagine.
Ghost is getting you a 3rd-5th… you come out of nowhere and drop 2 of the oilers top 3 prospects hahahaha
Likely a troll post so usually don’t comment, but this was too bad

TDL 2021
1) Fleury isn’t going to accept a trade to the oilers….. they are struggling and in a pressure cooker environment. Not a good fit from Fleury’s prospective. Can’t wait for the Fleury to the oilers discussions to stop
2) not enough quality for Chychrun

Is this possible
Dallas deal is reckless. Oilers are far from competing for a cup, so to move that many picks for two rentals is very short sighted.
I’d do that MTL deal, but by the sounds of it the Canadians will probably get a 1st for Chiarot. With the price he’s going to receive, no reason for the oilers to be in on him. For the same reason as above. This roster needs sustainable improvements before we can start flushing picks for rentals… and yes I know we are year 7 into connors career. So I am 100% on board with moving all and every future to improve. But moving the few valuable assets the oilers have for 20 game rentals is reckless. Which is why Holland should be all over players like Chychrun. But I’m doubtful Holland has a good game plan in mind

Add a few more picks from both sides in the Edmonton trade, then it would be better.
But as is it’s a yes from the oilers. The picks are almost a wash plus you are retaining in Ehlers.. Oilers are all over that deal

Goalie - D - 3rd line scoring
Huge overpayment on both the Philly and Rangers deals.
- I like Braun and I know you included a 1st, but Broberg has way more value to the oilers than that package. Braun is best served on a bottom pairing and maybe a 2nd pairing shutdown role. He’s also a UFA. The oilers have spent a few years already developing Broberg and he’ll play a key role on this team. The only player I see him being moved for is like a Chrychrun.
- Georgiev has far from impressive numbers playing in a strong Rangers team. He also is unlikely to be qualified in the offseason from what I’ve seen. A 1st and good prospect is just way too much
I personally don’t like the Bruins deal. Value may not be horrible. But Foegele and Yamomoto have arguably been the oilers hardest working forwards for the oilers. They are also both on really cheap deals. DeBrusk isn’t worth his qualifying offer and Folignos grit would be nice, but he isn’t really producing enough to justify his cap hit.
The only reason I kind of am interested in that Seattle deal is that it gets rid of Kassian. I like Barrie but would consider this. Would it work if you swapped Gio for Soucy and maybe a player like Appleone? I just don’t think Gio is any good anymore and Soucy would fit in nicely in this lineup. Gio probably still has some perceived value so Seattle could still deal him to a contender for a decent pick.

I like the Seattle deal… Dreidger is a risk but with the slim selection of goalies in free agency, I’d take. Big fan of Soucy too.

Next Year We Will Contend For A Playoff Spot
Oilers aren’t doing that…. A 1st and Broberg should get a really good return to a position of need.
Brown has 1 year left his deal and the oilers don’t have money to resign him. So you effectively just had the oilers move their two most valuable trade assets for 1 year of a 2nd Line winger and a bunch of mediocre pieces.
Mete and Gaudette are irrelevant depth pieces.. plenty of those available in free agency or the trade market for late picks.
Gustavsson is just a goalie who hasn’t shown anything impressive. With Konavalov, Skinner and Rodrigue in the system, oilers don’t need another B goalie prospect.
Deal just makes zero sense for the oilers

I don’t understand the rationale with this. Move McDavids only help for picks and prospects? If you’re moving Drai (which I’m against since), get some established impact players back.
Yes I get you could move the picks you get here for other players, but are you really trusting of oilers management to piece together multiple trades? When you’re moving Draisaitl, that’s the best chance you have to get another elite player back. Once you try moving picks, you’re not getting anything crazy in return

Swayman is promising, but far from a sure thing. Oilers have very little offensive help as is. Moving a fan favourite in Nuge is not the play.

Holtby Plus
Haha 3 prospects and a young fringe NHLer and a 2nd for a vet UFA goalie?
I don’t hate the idea of holtby, but that’s a pretty ridiculous return for a rental. I get none of those prospects are elite by any means, but moving out that many prospects in one deal seems excessive.
Again I like Holtby, but this team needs a fix in goalie. Not a band-aid for 10 games until he walks in free agency
