Big trade with Habs
Nylander (with his contract) are not exactly in high demand around the league. Petry doesn't have to be the #1, that's Rielly. He just has to keep up and hold the fort. Also, Nylander might be a heck of a natural talent and I know the stats nutheads are gonna tell me he's the greatest player ever...but am I the only person who remembers his playoff performances from the past 2 years? He's too scared of being hit and becomes utterly useless. Remember what the goal is here guys. You don't win the cup in the regular season. Rielly has NEVER had a competent partner.
I'm not saying this trade is likely. I'm saying it could benefit both teams.

4 back to backs in 14 games is kind of brutal
But no more until december sometime because our next ones the other team is also back to back</div></div>
The back to backs cant be blamed on the league scheduling. Its up to the players to show up to the back to back games or not. Penguins have had the most back to back games 2 of the last 3 years and if your team actually cares and wants to win every game they will show up. Ive seen b2b games for pens where we played better than the first game and some that we played dog ****. The one thing I always notice in the ones we lose is usually lack of effort or interest. Its up to the players.

My opinion is Marner 2 million Mathews 1.5 million and neutral on nylander. 3.5 million would have been enough to maybe get Gardner or another asset
Still they look good for the season but ain’t getting by Tampa or even Boston . Just my opinion

Bang on. It was hard explaining this to leafs fans. But those contract forced them into this situation with Marner.
It drove me crazy how quick they were to turn on him when he was holding out. It's not his fault the GM gifted crazy contracts to his teammates. He deserved to be paid accordingly.
If Marner signed his contract before Matthew's and Matthew's was the last one who had to hold out it would have been the other way around.

Marner’s not a “bad guy”... to the contrary he seems like a very decent human being. Does he have the worst contract on the team? Yes... that’s just plain and simple. Hey if ceci turns out to be a bag of ass... then maybe it’s him. Marner will grow into his contract and everything will be just fine. I’ve had him pegged for 6x 10.5m for the last 3 months. We all knew he was getting an overpay. Between his dad and his camp.. which hey, good for them. They got Mitch more money. I like the business end of hockey and pondering the cap/cba. But I also love the leafs and hockey in general. I’ve learned to separate the business from the game. In that regard it’s great to have Mitch back. On the business side, oh well, not going to hold any grudges.

you're right. they should have battled with nylander, it would have set a precedent. now matthews, you dont fight with, because he's your best player. whatever he wnats, you give him. but if they fiught nylander, marner would be signed to really good contract right now, and the rfa market wouldn't have been ludicrous.

Meh. Grab a pint, it's all good. It fits. We don't need to move anyone. We have the core locked in for awhile. And most importantly, we dont need to hear about this for another six years.
Is it an overpay? Absolutely it is. But it's over. TF!

Why is Aho not a comparable
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I think the whole get to FA topic is a bit overblown, I don't think that is the biggest driver for the players. I think these guys want to maximize their earnings over their best seasons. For example Matthews is 100% going to make a lot more than McDavid over their careers. Matthews will be signing his next deal as he turns 27, my guess is he'll sign a 5 year deal in the 14 million a year range maybe more. McDavid will sign his next contract when he's turning 30 and by then everyone is going to know that giving a 30 year old an 8 year mega deal is a terrible idea. We'll be able to thank LA and San Jose for that one. So what will likely happen is McDavid will have to for way less term to get more money or get a smaller contract for longer term.
I think a lot of young guys are going to go for shorter terms so they can make sure they can stay closer to what they should be making. None of these guys want to end up like Pastrnak, McKinnon or Shiefele. Losing out on getting huge money in their early years.</div></div>
Not overblown IMO. Thanks to the leverage that players gain by hitting UFA, they can expect to make the most money by reaching UFA in their prime. You're citing Matthews... that's exactly the example I'm talking about - hitting UFA ASAP so he controls his next deal, and it's during his prime vs in his decline. I think as we get close to the season, a lot of these guys will "win" their negotiation by removing UFA years from the deals they're offered, and signing shorter deals that give them the power on the next ones. Most of these guys are too impactful to sit out.
