I get the sentiment. But agree with claesson, execution is horrible. Asset management should be better than a top pairing dman for... Depth forward and D. Find a tanev is free agency, if they're trading Chabot go for position of great need in top 6/3 or top 4 D.
And I just don't agree depth is why theyre not winning. It's a collective trying to do too much with no direction of playing their game. It seems like they're trying to chase and match other teams, you just can't do that. The best teams dictate play. And sadly, once the slide started there's just no positive energy to turn it around so they get worse. Stutzle has not played well, Giroux either. So we can harp on the depth all we want, at the end of the day the top lines are dictating play

After the tank
A better idea would be to simply not sign Noesen. And I don't see the sens trading Norris and not wanting players to contribute on the roster immediately. A futures trade is just counter productive for that player.
Maybe someone gets moved out but my money would be on Batherson if so. Could be Chabot if they find an offer they like.

There probably isn't a bigger market for Chabot over Weegar. Teams would likely take the better defenseman making less money who plays a premium position over a more expensive one playing a position that everyone has a lot of even though he's younger.</div></div>
The level of play is marginal. And teams take into account term, cap hit. There's pros and cons for both sides in the trade. If you want perceived 'wins' then trade Weegar for picks and prospects. Won't know in 5 years if they even draft right or of the prospects turn into anything

Lol 'winning' not sure what that means it's very subjective? Sens probably don't want to do a trade where they're 'losing'. This isn't NHL 24
Flames want younger probably. Also Chabot would be easier to trade at contract expiry or he could resign. Way more flexibility. There's probably a bigger market for Chabot in prime age, less years on a contract than a 29 year old signed for 8 years. So getting out of an 8 year commitment is considered a win by GMs. Especially if rebuild is the direction.
I don't love the contract for the sens going back. But -1.5m on the cap. Sometimes it's the price of doing business

I just don't see a scenario where the Sens would add a first to Chabot for Weegar. If anything cgy would add but I could see a scenario where it's straight up with age difference, contract value etc cancelling each other out. Riskier for Sens than Cgy

Okay so what are the sens doing with Lassi Thompson
I mean this happens every year... Players burn through their entry level deal and they aren't ready. 1st round pick or 6th round, doesn't matter now, he needs more development. Pretty safe time for waivers though, everyone does it. If a player isn't going to stick on their 23 player roster, teams won't claim a guy just because. Spencer Martin's of the world are rare. Goalies have better chances of being claimed in this waiver period imo

Lol. Honestly, I really don't get the hate on DJ Smith. I like that they're letting him grow with the team. Rebuilds take time, we're on only 3 years removed from the 2020 draft, and the players are so young still. Also, No coach is perfect but it's about what he's brings out in the players, the trust he creates, the stuff we don't see. I'm in for the ride

Must admit, I don't see Tarasenko and Giroux on the same line. I'd like to try a balanced top 9 approach
Tkachuk - Stutzle - Tarasenko
Kubalik - Norris - Giroux
Greig/Sokolov - Pinto - Batherson
I would love to be surprised and have Sokolov crush camp, start in the top 9. Send Greig down to start the year in the A and get called up later. Greig could also bust out at camp too and make the decision easy.

The problem existed when you traded, got him, and didn't want to make him key component - you gave monies to Giroux and Stutzle. Shame on you. What a Joke.</div></div>
I couldn't imagine a more off point analysis. Didn't want to make him a key component? He was top 6, 1st pp. Have you seen Stutzle play? Yes you pay your #1 C first and if your hometown(ish) star veteran wants to come play for you, you make it happen. Debrincat simply didn't want to be in Ottawa or Canada for that matter, that's why it didn't happen.
And actually having a pick within our division is great imo, the more the sens beat them the better the pick is.

What Armstrong should have done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jwg314</b></div><div>Leonard alone is easily a better pick than Simashev, then you add all the rest. I give ARI's draft like a C- but these moves would have made it like an A-? Could be even better if they picked Musty or even Perreault at #19. I'm not optimistic of But.</div></div>
So I thought about the same thing after the 1st 15 picks... Why didn't Arizona entertain a trade down with the Caps?? Only 2 spots, they still would've had their guy and added a pick or whatever. The only thing I can come up with is the Caps weren't obsessed with Michkov and had Leonard higher. They're were reports Michkov wouldn't get past Philly so they def knew he'd be gone at 7. I think it comes down to that.
However I don't agree Simashev is a bad pick or that Leonard is better (or realistically, will be better). I think we will be looking back seeing a defensive anchor Arizona got like a Seider, just good at everything. Incredible skating and hockey sense but at 6'4. That's a dream really. We just hate they used the 6th pick for him haha. If they went Leonard 6, then Simashev 12 the general all knowing public would be happier lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>It's league min so who cares, but 3 year deals for below replacement level guys is just bad business.
If the plan is to go Imama-Kastelic-MacEwan, that's instantly the meanest 4th line in the league, but they're really asking Jesus to carry a LOT of the burden on the whole "playing hockey" aspect of things. Thank god Kasty is like 60% on draws, because they're gonna see a whole lot of D zone draws.
Don't love what this means for Sokolov's odds at making the team. I had him penciled in at 4RW.</div></div>
Realistically it's hard to have all above replacement level players and MacEwen won't play every game. So at league min for a 13th forward is ok to me. They can call up for a more skilled replacement like Sokolov unless he really impresses in camp. Imama probably spends most of his time in Belleville unless MacEwen gets hurt or they want to show the Leafs how soft their team is 😂

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>The only reason the move Forsberg is if the cap is a major issue and/or they are afraid of how he will play after recovering from his injuries. This might be the only chance they have to move him in that scenario, because this is a very weak goalie market. If they do move him, I see them signing someone else as the incumbent backup for Sogaard to have to beat out by the end of the season.</div></div>
I think for those reasons is why he may not be moved. The uncertainty of his injury applies to all teams. I think sens might be stuck with him. But honestly i'm ok with it. I think he's a capable 30/35 game starter

Ottawa Senators signed Joonas Korpisalo (5 Years / $4,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>Sogaard doesn't factor into this contract at all. If Sogaard factors in, that's a good problem to have, because that means he has broken out as a star.
Sogaard is waiver exempt for two more seasons. Exactly the time when Forsberg is off the books. It would not surprise me to see the Senators sign Sogaard to either a 2 year 2-way extension, or a 3 year extension with the first years as a 2-way and the last year as a 1-way. They need cost certainty with Sogaard to protect against him breaking out and complicating things.
If Sogaard signs a 2-3 year deal, Forsberg's roster spot and cap hit is off the books before Sogaard's waiver status and argument for a larger contract becomes relevant. If Sogaard ends up as a #1 NHL goalie, they can likely then bridge him for 2 years until Korpisalo's contract expires (if he isn't bought out by then).
There is a distant chance that they try to capitalize on the weak free agent market for goalies by moving Forsberg now and getting out of his contract. Even if they do that, I do not think Sogaard will be penciled in as the backup. They will find a stop gap veteran on a 1-2 year deal at less money than Forsberg in order to give Sogaard competition. Sogaard is not ready yet. He needs to win his spot, not be handed it. This would surprise me though, unless they are concerned about how Forsberg will bounce back from the knee injuries. The reason it would surprise me is that I think they are going to want a competent 1B type to play 30+ games with Korpisalo as an unproven starter.</div></div>
I think they'll stick with Forsberg. 6.75 is reasonable for your goalie tandem. But I agree they'll be keeping Sogaard down either way. They even reported Dorion want the B Sens to compete this year for their players development. To me that means Sogaard the the guy down there. Having him learn to win and be the guy in the AHL is the right way to go

Unlike most people here I like it. He was trending to be a solid starter before he needed double hip surgery. He's finally healthy and showed what he can be now that he got his hips fixed. Sogaard is 2-3y ears away anyway not knocking on the door. Lots of low hanging takes here
