<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>The only reason the move Forsberg is if the cap is a major issue and/or they are afraid of how he will play after recovering from his injuries. This might be the only chance they have to move him in that scenario, because this is a very weak goalie market. If they do move him, I see them signing someone else as the incumbent backup for Sogaard to have to beat out by the end of the season.</div></div>
I think for those reasons is why he may not be moved. The uncertainty of his injury applies to all teams. I think sens might be stuck with him. But honestly i'm ok with it. I think he's a capable 30/35 game starter

Ottawa Senators signed Joonas Korpisalo (5 Years / $4,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>Sogaard doesn't factor into this contract at all. If Sogaard factors in, that's a good problem to have, because that means he has broken out as a star.
Sogaard is waiver exempt for two more seasons. Exactly the time when Forsberg is off the books. It would not surprise me to see the Senators sign Sogaard to either a 2 year 2-way extension, or a 3 year extension with the first years as a 2-way and the last year as a 1-way. They need cost certainty with Sogaard to protect against him breaking out and complicating things.
If Sogaard signs a 2-3 year deal, Forsberg's roster spot and cap hit is off the books before Sogaard's waiver status and argument for a larger contract becomes relevant. If Sogaard ends up as a #1 NHL goalie, they can likely then bridge him for 2 years until Korpisalo's contract expires (if he isn't bought out by then).
There is a distant chance that they try to capitalize on the weak free agent market for goalies by moving Forsberg now and getting out of his contract. Even if they do that, I do not think Sogaard will be penciled in as the backup. They will find a stop gap veteran on a 1-2 year deal at less money than Forsberg in order to give Sogaard competition. Sogaard is not ready yet. He needs to win his spot, not be handed it. This would surprise me though, unless they are concerned about how Forsberg will bounce back from the knee injuries. The reason it would surprise me is that I think they are going to want a competent 1B type to play 30+ games with Korpisalo as an unproven starter.</div></div>
I think they'll stick with Forsberg. 6.75 is reasonable for your goalie tandem. But I agree they'll be keeping Sogaard down either way. They even reported Dorion want the B Sens to compete this year for their players development. To me that means Sogaard the the guy down there. Having him learn to win and be the guy in the AHL is the right way to go

Unlike most people here I like it. He was trending to be a solid starter before he needed double hip surgery. He's finally healthy and showed what he can be now that he got his hips fixed. Sogaard is 2-3y ears away anyway not knocking on the door. Lots of low hanging takes here

(NSH/COL) - Johansen for Galchenyuk
Lots of positivity for the Avs here and I couldn't disagree more. Johansen is one of the more out of place players in the NHL, his hockey sense is average at best and now his skating has regressed so much hes always behind the play. He's a 2nd line RW max, but truthfully I couldn't even trust that.
It doesn't matter what they traded, its 4m for the next 2 years the Avs can't get back. I thought Sakic would be better than this

I would hope Dubas wouldn't do the leafs any favours. Definitely keeping Pinto. Defense is the most important for the sens, so I don't get this trading Chabot trend. Just a bad idea and sets them back to before the chychrun trade

Ottawa should stop trading young goalies and trust in their development. I wanted the sens to trade up for him in his draft and to my utter shock they did. Would be a shame to throw that away when he's 22.

Losing a full year of development is completely relevant. Doesn't change the question but changes the answer. Youre wondering if he's a bust, we're saying it's too early to even ask combined with his health scare. Ask again in 3 more years when he's above 200 nhl games played.

Its completely irrelevant though. He was sick for a whole year lost crazy weight and he's already small. Drafting a player high isn't a tell of how fast they will be ready to play but how good they will be when they're 25

What would it take to get number 3 or number 4 in the draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>According to the data based on an article released last year, the pick value of 4th is 100 and the value of 5th is 90. To make up the difference it only costs about the 52nd pick (mid 2nd round). I would say that if you were to offer the 5th and 37th picks you could get to 4th easily and that would be considered an overpayment. However there will be users here that will try to convince you that it would take a lot more than that but it's just not true. Also seeing as Michkov is likely to be the pick at 5th he is viewed as the better player in the long run so the Sharks wouldn't even be downgrading in talent to move back</div></div>
Lol easily? How could possibly think you know that? Maybe the book says it would only be a 2nd, but if I'm sharks GM I'm not going by the book lol. If you want to move up and convince me to not take the player I want and risk you taking him, I better be getting something that I value. 37th pick? Meh.
In the later rounds or even late 1st round you can think of it like that (trade downs happen every year there) but not in the top 5 when there are perceived tiers of elite players

A different approach - trading up and deadline rentals
Stutzle or Norris is wildly ambitious but I think Grieg and a 1st are also no go's for a UFA goalie. Pinto could be available not sure. Dorion fought hard to keep Grieg with Chychrun, not trading him for a goalie

A Realistic Matthews Trade based on the Tkachuk Trade
This in no was compares to Tkachuk/huberdeau trade lol. I think what you're missing is if (which is a big if) he gets traded before UFA, it's probably to a place he'll sign an extension to maximize leafs return so there will be no free agent bidding war. A team either ponies up and extends him, or you lose out

Very much risk free. I like that he's become a go to player for his Liiga team and now playing for his country in the world cup. Has that veteran edge but just entering his prime. Definitely rooting for him to carve out a role in the NHL even if it isn't on the sens.
