Habs aren't trading the 5th overall pick for Dubois, no matter how many Vesalainen you want to add on top.
...the only way they would even consider it is if they are REALLY not comfortable taking Michkov, and don't care if they end-up with Benson, Leonard, Dvorsky or Reinbacher. Then I could see them trading down at #9, acquiring Dubois in the process...but you wouldn't get FLA's 1st.

I agree that Connor is worth more bit all these trades I tried to take less or give more than I thought was needed but not by a crazy amount, except for the UFA contracts as overpays would be required to get them to sign here and then we could retain on one more trade at the deadline for a premium asset.

Florida pick looking in the 28-32 range so basically a second rounder. You’d get better dealing him at the deadline or to a team like Carolina or Colorado that could finish worse than top 4.

The idea for the trade back is with pld, Suzuki, Dach, Beck Habs likely go wing and if they like Benson at 5 he probably would still be there at 9 if we take a C and then Reinbacher.

The problem is that wouldn’t work for us. Need 9 to trade up to 5 for it to make sense for the jets. There’s no deal if he needs to wait.

Stutzle or Norris is wildly ambitious but I think Grieg and a 1st are also no go's for a UFA goalie. Pinto could be available not sure. Dorion fought hard to keep Grieg with Chychrun, not trading him for a goalie

Scheifele is extremely overrated in my book. Just another Kuz, good offensively (though not as good as Kuz) and terrible defensively. Already 30 too. Caps don't need centers, they need top end young wingers. Maybe if you replaced him with Ehlers but even then I wouldn't. Stanley has terrible analytics plus Caps are loaded at defense, especially on the left side. Iorio looks like a lock to be top 4 and Mantha is great if used properly, they'll see what the new coach does with him.

I think you've done great value wise. Caps would definitely have to consider it. I'd still pass personally, but I'm also super high on Iorio so I probably overvalue him. And I'd be a lot more interested in Ehlers than Scheifele. We definitely need some more skill on the wing, and with Kuzy, Strome, Backy, Dowd, McMichael, Lapierre, and even Protas and Oshie, the center position here is pretty full.

I thought it was the other way around where they wouldn’t move Pinto. I could move Helle to the Pens instead if it’s a no go.

Don’t really need iorio, especially if that’s the deal breaker. Longer term I’d be looking at Reinbacher, salomonsson and then Bauer to handle the fisticuffs. I really like iorio so was trying to nab him as part of the deal but I’d still do it without him.

At a $3m caphit that gives you one more loaded run with ovi. If rebuilding now maybe it doesn’t make as much sense.

They can find other better players for a cheaper price is my main point.
