It’s not that Nikishin is a bad prospect, it’s just that trading all that for an unsigned Russian prospect might not be the best of ideas for Philly.

They're no holy trinity of Krug-Binnington-Saad, that's for sure

Saad got traded for Panarin so he must be amazing and Krug is the Blues Petro Replacement so clearly hes a top level guy

It'd be an enormous risk for sure, but I think it's worth it.

The way I see it, a lot of the value of Hart and TK as they currently stand is their current AAV's relative to their performances, which Philly can't really take advantage of in any capacity. They have a really deep Goalie pool which they can take advantage of later down the road, which is why I'd be ok with moving Hart. As for TK, the way I see it is that outside of having a stupid deep winger pool, wingers are also the easiest position to add on the market eventually. Assuming price isn't the problem (which keep in mind if they'd be extending TK it would be), than replacing him later down the line is very doable.

Outside of winning a draft lottery or getting very lucky with prospect development, there is no chance in Hell they're finding another guy like Nikishin on the market later down the road. The dude is like a left handed Russian Seider. I view this as a home run swing attempt to land a guy who can be the number #1D on a future contender

I largely think it depends on where you're at as an organization and what your needs are. In the case of the Flyers, if Nikishin were to sign I genuinely believe he'd be infinitely more valuable for them later down the road than the aforementioned duo

I know about Nikishin but can’t trade the two most valuable roster players for a single prospect. He may certainly be a great player in the future, but he’s still a prospect. If he doesn’t pan out, the Flyers just moved guys with high present and future value for one risky bet.

I have watched some of SKA's games this season and say Nikishin is a definitelly a good prospect, but nobody is going to pay that much for him.

Giant risk for Flyers but also ignoring the hurricanes have Kochetkov signed for 4 years and no reason to move Nikishin? Thinking it's a no go

As far as I'm aware, Nikishin was off the table for both Meier and Tkachuk. Now we can argue all day whether that was smart or not by Waddell, but I have a hard time believing that Hart + one and a half years of TK is better than the RFA rights of those players.

Nikishin simply doesn't have that value. If he even comes over he will have 1 year of elc and then I'm not even sure if the Canes will have RFA control, and if they do it'll be for just 1 year. You don't get 90% of a prospects value which comes from their cheap ELC+RFA years.

Let's use simon nemec for example. The devils will have 3 years at 950k guaranteed, then 3-4 more years of cheap RFA control if they want to bridge him, at around 5x4 even if he becomes a stud dman over his ELC.

That's 7 years of nemec for 23 million dollars
Let's say nikishin comes over and does great. Boom youve gotten 1 year at 950, great value? Now what does he want as a contract with the threat of going to another team or back to the KHL looming. 6x1 at the least or 8x6 on a longer term deal

You've now paid 49 million dollars for those 7 years of Nikishin

You might as well just take our logo and mascot while ur at it

Nikishin is so hard to value at this point. It would be huge gamble for either side.
