Helenius to Anaheim
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsDuckSeason</b></div><div>I read this article. The article starts by saying PV wants a top 6RHW winger and a top 4RHD, which is correct. Somehow the writer comes to a conclusion suggesting Konsta Heleinus is their man because of his gritty style of play and ANA need at RW. Then vaguely says "Multiple sources have spoken to Anaheim’s strong appreciation for Helenius". In no way does this comment suggest ANA is going to pick him. It purely states they like his style of play. I can guarantee you that if PV was asked about any other prospect he would comment saying something similar. I'd love to know who these "Multiple sources" are, they are not listed in the article. The majority of people who are familiar with the Ducks organisation know PV keeps a tight ship, hence no one knew about the Drysdale-Guthier trade and the selection of Leo Carlson over Adam Fantili.
It's made by the Montreal media, therefore it must be accurate, definitely not clickbait promoting the "Cayden Lindstrom going to MTL agenda". In the comments of that article you have someone else bagging the article. Do your research and crosscheck what you write.
The Guhle + MTL pick for ANA pick to move up 1-2 spots. Value wise tipped towards MTL, but as pointed out isn't worth it for ANA. He would become a scratched/ third-string guy on our future team.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Are you suggesting Zegras is worth a MID second and a 3rd pair shutdown defenceman?
Because if you do believe this, you have some problems up top. Have you not learned from everyone suggesting Hughes is a bust, and even Slafkovsky until finally somewhat breaking out this year? What's worse Zegras has been injured all year. When he finally returned he became a PPG player. This accusation of Zegras being horrible defensively has been based on previous years. This year (although the sample size has been small) Zegras has improved his defence drastically. At this stage, you are just picking and choosing the worst attributes of Zegras's game over the past years just so you can offer this horrendous deal.
EDIT: Sorry if I was a bit harsh, I had a bad morning. I didn't mean to sound like an A-hole</div></div>
I think you are confusing me for someone else, I only answered where the OP got his supposed sources from, I even said that it was speculation and not fact. I was defending the Ducks fans POV not supporting the OP's.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLInsider67</b></div><div>Look at it as 2 separate trades
1. Guhle + MTL pick for ANA pick
2. Barron + 2nd for Zegras (Zegras isn’t worth much more than that imo, he’s severely overrated)</div></div>
Its actually not, the value of trading up 1 spot in the draft is a 2nd round pick, Guhle has way more value than that. You proposal actually breaks down like this Ana 1st for Mon 1st + 2nd - Guhle + Barron for Zegras. Now the value for Zegras is fine but the parts are not, as was stated by a Ducks fan previously they don't need Guhle, so if you take him out of the deal you are gonna have to replace him with another 1st (lottery protected 2025) or someone we dont want to move (Reinbacher, Slafkovsky, Mailloux, ect...) which kills any deal. The problem with a Ducks/Habs trade is we are in similar situations with regards to our rebuilds and our rosters are missing similar peices (top 6 forward or top pairing RD) so trades are gonna be extremely difficult.

Lastly, why would we be chasing Helenius? Name your source.</div></div>
Sourse was an article that did a mock draft by Montreal hockey now, they only suggested that the Ducks could go off the board and select Helenius at 4 since he fits what Verbeek described he was looking for this off season (top 6 RS forward or top 4 RHD) the article was just a mock and wasn't based on any specific rumors. They mocked Celebrini, Demidov and Levshunov going top 3 then suggested the Helenius pick

Why would Montreal do this? There are reports that we already turned down better offers for Xhekaj and they were from non rival teams, do you seriously think we would accept this from the Leafs or Bruins?! Would you accept it from the Habs if the roles were reversed?

Happy Birthday Mitch Marner Welcome To The Habs

Eichel wanted out of buffalo and was coming back from a back surgery no one thought he could return from. That you would think would be rock bottom value but Buffalo still got a decent haul</div></div>
What are you talking about? Eichel had a surgery that had a long history of success, just no one in hockey had ever had the surgery before. His prognosis was always around 90% that he would return to hockey and 70% that he would return to the high level of hockey he had previously played at. GM's are just old school and none of them want to be the first to allow a player to do something that has never been done before. The risk was really low that he would never play again, like 5% or whatever, the issue was finding the value of where Eichels play level would be prior to the surgery and since no one could know they errored on the side of caution and assumed it was going to be at the level of those who had had fusion surgery before. Buffalo really screwed the pooch not allowing him to have his surgery and decreasing his value that much, they could have gotten a massive haul if they had let him have the surgery and gotten healthy sooner.

I know when overage penalties are applied, I said the contract ends in 2 years and as we already determined a 1 mil overage penalty isn’t a hindrance for the 3rd most valuable franchise in the league. There is more than one way to look at LTIR contracts (as with everything else in the world) I choose to focus on the positives, you can focus on the negatives if you like but that is a dark way to live my friends

Next year without Marner
As an outsider, the Leafs best games of the series were 5, 6 and 7. Coincidently Mathews missed games 5 and 6 and had limited ice time in game 7. I am not saying Mathews personally is the problem, just the mentality of the team changes when he isn’t on the ice, they play a more blue collar, everyone buys in to defense type of game when they know they don’t have anyone to take over the game himself. They need to figure out how to play that way even with Mathews in the lineup, that is what will get them a deeper run.

I never understand these types of comments, sure Dubois had the worst season of his career and he hasnt lived up to the contract but we signed Suzuki to almost same deal (only 700k less) after posting similar totals to PLD in his first couple of seasons. PLD didn't forget how to play hockey and will return to form, he is only going on 26 ffs. The objective shouldn't be to fleece another team, if that is how real GM's worked they would be out of a job very quickly since other GM's would not trade with them. The deal has got to work for both sides, you are not getting PLD or any similar center for Anderson + a couple picks

I think its a win-win-win situation
LA wins by moving on from a player not working out but is also made whole for their investment.
Montreal wins by getting a player they wanted at a more reasonable cap hit who fits the teams dynamic of being a solid 2-way teams, their cotention timeline and as insurance incase Dach is injured again.
Dubois wins by finally getting to the destination he has been rumored to always want to get to and being given another second chance under one of the most influential head coaches in the league.

I am not being obtuse, I am just saying that in Carey's own words he has always maintained that at some point he may be able to return in some capacity. Does that mean he will, no but it also doesn’t mean he won't try, especially if the team is in a position to make another serious run at a cup before his contract runs out or he officially retires (whichever comes first).
Also do you seriously think that a 1 mil cap overage penalty is that much of a hindrance to the thrid richest team in the league who made over 265 million in last season and has a net value of 2.3 billion? Thats like a $1.50 and a Slim Jim to them!

Dubois Trade Instead of Buyout
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>There are no positives, the purpose of LTIR is allow teams to temporarily exceed the cap (by adding the cap hit to salary cap) to give them injury relief.
A team that is in LTIR:
- Cannot accumulate any cap space over the course of the season (makes it harder to make trades at the deadline).
- Is penalized on next years cap due to bonus overages. Notice how MTL was penalized $1M this year. This will only get worse with as MTL adds more ELC's and they improve. The roster above has $4.6M in potential bonuses, if they still have Price that is $4.6M in potential cap penalties for 2025-26.
There is clear difference between someone like Price (who will never play again) being on LTIR compared to someone like Stone or Kucherov who is magically healthy for game 1 of the playoffs. That is how contenders are using it to their advantage, by activating them once the playoffs start. That isn't a factor with Price. The other way LTIR is used is to dump contracts... examples:
- TB trades Johnson for Seabrook to dump Johnson's cap hit and put Seabrook on LTIR.
- VGK trades Dadanov for Weber to dump Dadanov's cap hit and put Weber on LTIR.
It isn't advantageous for them to acquire Seabrook or Weber for LTIR... it is advantageous for them to dump Johnson and Dadanov.
There is no advantage to Price's contract whatsoever. It 100% hurts MTL and there is absolutely no benefit of it.</div></div>
1. Price never ruled out playing post season games, his exact words were his body can't take the rigors of a full NHL season, I am pretty sure the competitor in him will try to play if the Habs make the post season and he is still part of the team.
2. The <strong>Sanley Cup</strong> is the only positive a team needs to use LTIR to their advantage, if not then they probalby should go find another sports team to manage
