Yep. Hopefully they get Calen to take that minimum QO, and hopefully Rossi can work his way into the top six at some point during the season. I think the lineup looks way better (on paper, at least) with JEEK as the 1C, Rossi as the 2C, and Hartman down with Foligno and Gaudreau.

Thoughts Wild fans
Pettersson is great, but not worth giving up two cornerstone players to get. Like Joker said, the real struggles lie with the cap penalties. No variation of giant trades like these will change that reality for the Wild. Guerin will wait to make big moves until a couple summers from now when the penalties are minimal.

Gustavsson to New York Rangers
What is the backup plan if the Wild trade away Gus? No way is Guerin going to be comfortable with making Fleury the starter for 55-60 games in what is most likely his last season. And no way is Wallstedt ready for more than a few games to dip his toes in, if at all.

Sorry, but under no circumstances is Bill Guerin going to trade his proven starting tender for an unproven, undersized, 19 year old Russian to be the starter. Gus will be getting a one or two year deal to stay in Minnesota.

Dumba
As a Wild fan, I hope Dumba can find a spot on a competitive team such as Vancouver. He has lost a lot of offense, but can still eat minutes in the top 4 and has played much better defensively as of late to compensate. I hope he doesn't have to settle for Arizona.

Yes, the Wild are giving up way too much value here. Like it or not, Hartman is their #1 center this coming season. If the Wild are out of it come the TDL, then Ottawa can think about trading for him/Foligno.

I think further to the point would be that Kuznetsov has had character problems in the past, to go along with a huge contract that the Wild won't be able to stomach with their buyout penalties over the next two seasons. Unless the Caps retain a significant amount, in which case... yea, still no deal. Guerin/Evason won't want him on the team, regardless of his relationship with Kirill.

The Wild don't have enough room to sign Tatar, who doesn't even play the PP anymore. You don't have a full roster here, either. They will need two more players (Rossi, Addison, Lettieri, etc), and need the cap room to do so. Also, Gus will sign more in the realm of 3.25M AAV.

Wild push for the cup with their buyouts cap hell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>I think that package might make it worth it, Khusnutdinov would be a perfect fit for the capitals</div></div>
Exactly why the Wild won't make a move like this while their cap hell is still around. As Guerin has said, they are building toward something. No need to sacrifice a potentially big part of their future in Khusnutdinov for a couple years of an aging player. I'd like to say I am a realist when it comes to being a Wild fan, and thusly I would say (and Guerin has basically said) that while the buyout penalties are around - this team will not be a true contender. No need to push this many chips on the table until the cap penalties are gone. Only two more seasons to go!

I still think this team is gonna be top 4 in the central. Y'all have enough physicality to mess with Colorado and Dallas for sure. But the speed will be a problem......</div></div>
Yea they'll be in the mix, which is impressive given the circumstances.
And I think even more brutal would have been if Parise and Suter were still on the team, taking up roster spots at their age and at their full cap hits. Guerin and Co. finally convinced Leipold that this was the better way forward, seeing as how those 13-year contracts were never going to age well. It's also an opportunity to finally build the team the right way (through the draft, utilizing the baby Wild way better). It hurts now, but they'll get their time in the sun soon enough.

Addison has no arb rights, and he plays like he's made out of paper machete in his own zone. He will get around 1M AAV, maybe a bit less. Gus Bus will get 3.2-3.4M AAV.

Louder for the people in the back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNBassman</b></div><div>Leipold definitely signed off on it. As I remember, he was more concerned with the business side (jersey sales, attendance, bottom line, etc) than he was about the hockey side.
Also worth noting is it appears Guerin was able to sell Leipold on his patient approach during the interview process. During his reign, Leipold has been nothing but impatient and was way too willing to mortgage the future for what he hoped would be instant success. The entire existence of this franchise has been run poorly…over-valuing what they actually had…going all-in with mediocre teams. Not once has this team been built for sustainable success. Not once, until hopefully now, have they ever played the long game. I hope Guerin stands firm and only goes all-in once, and only if, they ever do become bonafide Cup contenders.</div></div>
I still remember that day when they signed both in 2012, it was a lot of fun. I don't blame Leipold/Fletcher for making the signings, they were the top two free agents and the org was searching for an injection of relevance - it put the team on the NHL map. And with 13-year contracts, this scenario was bound to happen especially when the CBA was changed to include cap recapture.
And like Bassman said, this now forces them to take the long-term approach of building a team the right way for the first time ever. Silver linings are key in Wild land!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>Yeah, you could swap Petan out with him and the result is about the same. Both are there to make it so guys like Rossi and Beckman have to earn a spot and if they need to be sent to Iowa will probably be able to make it through waivers. There's also other cheap players that could make the roster, like Walker for example.</div></div>
Yea, all those guys will be in the mix. IMO Lettieri is the best option of those guys. He can play W or C, play in the top six in a pinch, and otherwise might be Iowa's best player when he's down there, outside of Rossi if he is down there. I see Petan as a career AHLer at this point.

I think Lettieri, whom they just signed, will be the 13th forward to make the team out of camp - ahead of Beckman. I hope Beckman gets games at some point, but Lettieri is more versatile and is actually slightly cheaper and thus a bit easier to keep on the team.

After this past season and how he performed in his one playoff start, I don't see how Fleury would win a starting job elsewhere unless it were on a team that isn't shooting for the playoffs. I think he is content to be the backup on the Wild where he knows he will have one more chance at getting to the dance. And he is eight wins from passing Roy for second all time... I'd say he'll easily get the chance to do that in Minnesota, even as second fiddle.

I like it, well done. Would be fun to have a gritty leader like Toews on the team for a year or two before he retires. Like you said though, I think Guerin and Co. are banking on Foligno having a resurgent year after an injury-filled 22-23. I almost think they'd re-sign him for cheap again too, if he does bounce back and they don't trade him at the deadline.

Due to the Wild's cap problems the next two seasons and Reinhart's current AAV, it would have to be a player-for-player trade if there were any chance. In which case, Zuccarello going the other way would be the only option to make it work. And at that point, it probably doesn't make sense for Florida.

Otherwise, we have no need for Boqvist, not with Faber expected to replace Dumba. But I'd take the gamble on Zadina in a heartbeat.</div></div>
Agreed on Zadina. And if those are the AAVs for one and three years for Gus, I'd take the 3 year deal and run. Lots of needles in the haystack there, though.
