get him to NY
To the empty garbage cans:
Zegras is a native New Yorker. He needs not a picture with a Ranger or any other connection, because wanting to play for the team he grew up rooting for is incentive enough.
Said, putting the Perreault brothers together in either locale (likely Anaheim) plays a role in such a trade. A more opportune player return starts with Ryan Lindgren; pairing with either Drysdale or Fowler creates a settling of the defense (selling point).
Along with the brother Perreault, a veteran to balance the cap might come in handy..Goodrow. Once upon a time, this steady forward was a Shark; let him continue his career as a Duck. His game and presence steadies Anaheim's bottom six, with nearly no impact to the cap; his departure provides the ideal cap dump needed for future movement by the Rangers.
End the move with an addition by subtraction for the Ducks, by moving Isac Lundestrom. The Rangers offer two first round picks within the next three seasons, to close out a sound offer for a player who likely wants to be closer to home.

What is your assurance that they want to? Cap? Seriously, needing players who can play tough minutes and endure through a season, into the playoffs, is exactly why Goodrow was obtained to begin with; not to mention the two Stanley Cup rings.
In the same reasoning Treleving grabbed Coleman, Drury grabbed Goodrow; utilizing them effectively is an entirely different matter. Neither of them has gotten only one goal or spent all season on IR. They each contribute heavily in their minutes, each offering physical contributions in every game situation.
Again, say you don't want Goodrow's cap hit and leave it at that. But saying he has negative value is invalid. And your little cheerleader who keeps putting a like to your statements, needs to grow some and make his own.

Goodrow is a 30 year old overpaid 4th liner, he’s a useful player but his contract gives him negative trade value. If you insist he’s included instead of Chytil, then I would counter by saying you would need to swap out Cuylle with Schneider and to add another first round pick. Because taking on Goodrow’s contract requires significant compensation imo</div></div>
Once more with feeling:
Saying aloud "I don't want Goodrow!" is more honest that saying "he has negative value" in a trade.

Under a new coach, no one knows how he would be utilized. Placing the idea of "negative value" is a fan view that has ZERO application, without said trade/playtime happening.
I can live with saying "I don't want him!". That's at least honest.

Lindy is not staying in Calgary. You're getting the same level of experience you lost with Lucic, at a pricetag nearly $2 million dollars less. Cuylle is not a scant prospect: NHL size, good skater, hitter and has a quality shot.
Getting these two does not inhibit Calgary. Lindholm doesn't want to play there, anymore. Kadri, Ruszicka, Huberdeau and Pelletier seem like they're the core for the team's present/future.

Respectfully, IF you're modeling after the Horvat trade, then swap Chytil for Goodrow. I wouldn't want to lose Cuylle; this deal fits fully, inhibiting neither club (Cuylle/Goodrow for Lindholm).

It's not that fans want to see Trocheck play there, as he has already done so, successfully just this past season. The most questionable move is bringing in Brassard, while not elevating Othmann to third line left wing.

WHAT IF NYR were smarter with their drafts
I agree with Byfield over Lafreniere. Kravtsov should've been a trade-up for Tkachuk, with a subsequent trade for Miller. Necas would've been smart by trading down; it would've either been Norris or Thomas.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>name the other high priced risky move the canes have done and ill concede.</div></div>
This isn't a competition..but, since you insist: Jordan Staal. The original trade for him, was taking the back half of a 10-year deal, three years into it.
In man-games played, he's been in just about two-thirds of them regular season, while otherwise injured; the same issue he faced with Pittsburgh, prior to the trade.
Good on management to get him, as when he's healthy, is a true shutdown center.
By the way, Panarin has missed two games due to injury, six via COVID-19 and 10 due to a propaganda issue in Russia during his career..a total of 590 man-games played. By the way, you're talking about $8 million for three years, as my suggested deal does retain $3.6+ million.

upgrading top 6 while leveraging cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>I love everyone thinks RBA is a miracle worker with players. At the same time you take that chance when you have very little risk in this deal. We have Necas and Pesce going in this deal with a ton of financial commitment to find out if Panarin will play a more complete game. That is a ton of risk and cost</div></div>
On the contrary, the Rangers and Hurricanes roll through the same risk. Each Canes' player is on a one-year contract, while Drury is seeking a more opportune level of ice time. Make or break, Jones is a throw-in who is a local kid; given the incompletion of his game, there's still ceiling to reach for. Panarin and Goodrow can find lift in their games, surrounded by different teammates, mostly who've been in the same boat looking to get over the mountain.
The real risk would be the Rangers tangling with getting six players (Necas, Pesce, Drury, Kakko, Schneider and Lindgren) under contract. Perhaps as many as eight, depending on how much term is given to Lafreniere and Miller.

It becomes worse in the playoffs too.</div></div>
All reasonable points. As it was originally stated, Drury and Jones are a push, as each would be reclamation projects for their coaches. While Panarin does have that tendency, I think he will be challenged and prompted to change by Brind'Amour.

upgrading top 6 while leveraging cap
Suggestion:
Nix the Forbort and Henrique trades, Considering the need for more offense, I would prompt this offer instead:
CAR gets:
Panarin, Artemi (waives NMC, with $3,645,827 retained)
Goodrow, Barclay
Jones, Zachary
NYR gets:
Drury, Jack (following trade request)
Necas, Martin
Pesce, Brett
No adjustments needed to stabilize roster. At $8 million for three years, Panarin continues his pure offense with new goal scoring threats Aho and Svechnikov; Kotkaniemi and DeBrincat are joined by Goodrow's size and stability on the second line. Jarvis's opportunity to have center ice, comes on the third line, joined by Martinook and MacEachern. Jordan Staal and Stefan Noesen are joined by a prospect.
The shift of over $5 million dollars allows Waddell to maneuver as needed. Elevating Chatfield and Coghlan instead of trading them, sets up for future movement, while leaving Brind'Amour little to do in terms of dealing with turnover.

I don't hate the Jack Drury trade. The Merrill trade and Sheary signing might be the incorrect follow-ups.
Unless he isn't re-signed already, I'd consider a deal for Morgan Geekie who fits that third or fourth line role; followed by a trade for Jake Bean and/or Andrew Peeke on defense from Columbus.
Some of the choices provided in free agency and the trade block, could be better options depending on the new head coach.

Glad I could inspire you. With $4 million available, a free agent or a pairing trade is possible.
My advice: slide Fox to the left with Trouba, drop Lindgren to slot with Schneider as the second pair, trade for a similar defender to Trouba and Schneider (think Peeke in Columbus), and slot either Jones or Robinson in that LD3 spot.
Happy Hunting.

While there zero issue with the trade, your signings are a little bit off.
Add $50K to Laff plus one season, while a fair deal for Miller will be 5y/$5M; these amounts will be offset as Kakko, Schneider, Othmann and Cuylle will be next in line for extensions.
Do not re-sign Halak. Promote Domingue on his final contracted season, which will save $750K. Domingue doesn't need to set the world on fire in his 20-25 starts; providing stable goaltending with prove break-even. 55 Shesterkin starts will yield 30-35 wins.

You're retaining less than you should, while resigning/signing players that fill the same role, leaving behind youth.
If you added Sean Walker to the deal and placed him on your third D pair; Iafallo, who is the equivalent to Motte, while Goodrow cancels out your want of Bertuzzi, retain $1 million dollars more.. you're much closer to a deal.
