(TOR/PIT) - Hållander for McCann

McCann (2.9) and Tanev (3.5) are both pretty cheap middle six guys. You aren't going to be finding lots in FA for much cheaper. But hey at least you're still paying Zucker 5.5 and Pettersson 4 million lol.

(TOR/PIT) - Hållander for McCann
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeyfanatic05</b></div><div>You mean the same roster that lost again in the first round? And the penguins were losing McCann to seattle for free, but instead they got a prospect in a pick. Look at it from both sides and not just the leafs</div></div>
Irrelevant point to make. From an asset management viewpoint, Dubas did his job. Can’t say the same for the Pens who leave the draft missing McCann and Tanev.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Laudan</b></div><div>That would be accomplishment if TML would lose against TBL in Finals 2021 with the "intact Team" but guess what.......</div></div>
That’s not at all relevant to the point. From an asset management viewpoint (which is Kyle Dubas’s job), the Leafs come out as winners from the Expansion Draft. Now unfortunately, while the front office has managed assets well, the players and coaches don’t seem to share the same dedication.

Some people in this thread really incapable of understanding that the Leafs only lost a meh prospect and a throw away pick to essentially lose nobody to Seattle. Leafs are the only team (other than Vegas) to leave the expansion draft with the same roster they had at the end of last season.

(VGK / CBJ) - Clarkson, 1st and 2nd round picks for expansion draft considerations
In Columbus's defense, Karlsson was only a 25 point player at the time. In hindsight, Vegas wins this big time, but at the time this didn't seem like a one sided move.
Hopefully GM's don't go repeating mistakes like this with Seattle.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Wayne Simmonds (2 Years / $900,000 AAV)

It really isn't up to Simmonds. Typically when you're a fourth line player signing a cheap deal, you sign that deal with the knowledge that you may very well end up in the minors if you aren't good enough.

Good cheap deal, which is exactly what the Leafs need to fill out the fourth line.
Lots of people on here forgetting that Dubas can just bury him in the minors if it doesn't work out.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed John Tavares (7 Years / $11,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KSIxSKULLS</b></div><div>You blew it because you got shut down. Time to admit Montreal just outplayed you. You think Stone went the entire 3rd round without a point because he forgot how to play hockey?</div></div>
Yeah Habs played great, but Leafs dominated the earlier games and could of ended it. Galchenyuk turns it over in Game 5, and then Dermott in Game 6. What happens in the series if JT is healthy? Can the Danault line shut down two lines at once? What happens if Marner doesn't clear the puck into the stratosphere in Game 6, and look lost in every other game? Habs played a good series, but the Leafs beat themselves as they always do. Also have to put some blame on Keefe for failing to adjust to the Habs style.
Still not sure how any of what you have said proves that the JT contract was bad though.

We were considered contenders this year? We blew the first round because AM and Mitch didn't bother to show up (JT being injured and Price being insane also played a big role). Tavares vastly improved this team, and has not been the reason at all that they lost since he's joined.

JT has been great every year for us, and we still managed to upgrade the right side with Brodie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jgimp69</b></div><div>Absolutely. One of the big forwards needs to go as well just to free up some money for your other lines. Dubas really pulled a Chiarelli on them Cap wise.</div></div>
I mean, Nylander played great, JT has shown up every year in the playoffs when healthy, and while Matthews didnt do much this year, he's still a generational talent. Marner has the talent to be worth his deal, but his problem is that he is mentally really weak. I just don't think Marner can handle high pressure games at all. I understand why some people want to trade him, but at the same time, I can totally see him getting traded and then finding his mental games somewhere else and making us look real stupid. Players as skilled as Marner are hard to get.

I just chose Winnipeg to make the point. Trade can happen with literally any team that wants an LHD. Don't care where he goes, but moving Rielly makes sense.

The Leafs clearly overpaid here.
But I think this was still a good move by Dubas. Foligno brings an aspect the Leafs are missing on offense.
Columbus wins based on value alone, but Foligno is a guy you want to have in the playoffs.

that's true to an extent. Even with the Ducks he was incredibly overrated just like most young RHD's are.
