offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>I added him in knowing you were probably a Boston guy. Here are some of his stats with where he ranks against defenseman with 500+ min. Ranks in ():
5 goals scored which is 3 above expected goals
Corsi of 39% (193rd)
Shot Attempts 103, Shots 38, Missed the net 32% of the time (missed shot % is 133rd)
On Ice Expected Goals 42%
Off Ice Expected Goals: 57%
Relative Expected Goals: -15% (204th)
On Ice Expected Goals Against per 60: 3.65 (174th)
On Ice Shot Attempts Against per 60: 68 (190th)
On Ice High-Danger Shot Attempts Against per 60: 4.07 (182nd)
Created Goals: 1.7 (197th)
Hits: 106 (77th)
Shots Blocked: 88 (129th)
In every single metric no only is Forbort the worst defenseman on Boston, he is one of the worst in the NHL. And, for context, all of those stats are significantly worse than POJ, who you said was terrible.
So, if he doesn't create goals or drive play or prevent goals, what is he good at?</div></div>
He’s a shut down d man that’s one of the best penalty killers in the league…what are you talking about?
Stats CAN be useful, but if you have no idea who a player is, and think you’re going to get a good idea by reading a short spreadsheet, hockey is not the sport for you

Problems here:
1. 20 man rosters aren’t a thing.
2. Swayman certainly says hell no.
3. Not accounting for bonus overages.
4. Probably at least 8 mill over the cap.

how to be competitive with a 4 5M penalty on capspace
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>I just mean it's hard to replace 27 goals, 58 points, a faceoff win % of >60, and a Corsi of >60 for 2.5MM. Check that, it's nearly impossible.
Also, my comment was baseball StL, not hockey. Should have specified, my bad.</div></div>
Bahahhahaha, ya, you should have specified. On a hockey website, guess which team most people are going to assume you’re talking about? And what the hell does baseball have to do with this? And why should we care?
I don’t even know what that reference means. Are you saying the bruins will be a competitive team that should make the playoffs? If so, I agree. Are you saying they’ll be dead last?
What a weird weird thing to do.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>Tell us how you really feel.
POJ is a 23 year old defenseman with solid numbers (regular and analytics). Not always the best decision making but 23 with upside.
Smith is a 23 year old defenseman with good numbers in the NHL (with limited sample size) and good AHL numbers. Not much experience but 23 with upside.
I don't want to know what you think of actually bad defenseman like Rutta or Forbort...</div></div>
Forbort is worlds better than both those guys. He’s actually good at something. He serves a purpose on the best blue line the NHL has seen in the last decade.

Sure Marchand put up more points but Toews is so much better, he also has more career points than Marchand so there's that as well.</div></div>
Marchand has the higher points per game and has actually been relevant over the last 7 years.

Best player from each of the last 20 Draft Classes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRevanchist17</b></div><div>Marchand over Toews? No
Doughty/Stamkos over Karlsson? No
Hedman over Tavares? Probably
Makar over Pettersson? Debatable but I'd rather have a selke contending center who can score 40 goals and put up 100 points than a number one dman who's proven he can't step up his game when his team has injuries.</div></div>
Couple problems here:
1. Marchand over toews is a no brainer. Maybe things would have been different if toews had stayed healthy, but he didn’t. Marchand had the higher peak as well. He had the 100 point season, and six consecutive point per game campaigns prior to this years injury shortened season. Toews only had one point per game season - the lockout shortened 2013 with 48 points in 47 games. Defensively they’re both absolutely elite. This is no contest.
2. Karlsson had a couple years when he actually played two ways. The rest was spent as another roving offensive d man that didn’t help his team win, but sure helped your fantasy team. Stamkos and doughty were both elite winners. Heck, for a stretch in his second contract doughty was probably the best player in the league.
3. Agreed
4. Well let’s see here, Pettersson has precisely….oh ya, zero selke votes in his entire career, and also zero 40 goals seasons. Makar on the other hand is the best d man on the planet. There is no argument for Pettersson over makar. That’s legitimate insanity, or homerism, depending on how you want to look at it.
