An EP40 swing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>EP40 is nowhere near as good in either end as Tkachuk was, even in Calgary. Base production doesn't do it justice. Even if we ignore Tkachuk having the best season by a player in the analytical era of hockey last year, his underlying defensively are still better. Whether that's a Darryl Sutter system or not is different, but EP40 is not as valuable as Tkachuk was at the time of the trade. Someone that young got 2 pending UFA's, one coming off a career year and was bought high on, and has never shown signs of being able to sustain that. You're severely overrating EP40. He's got, but he's not in the same boat as Tkachuk, he's much closer to Eichel.</div></div>
Brother when Tkachuk was traded that was like his first season over 77 points and he is a winger.. Pettersson is about to have his second 100 point season and he is a C.. He was 7th in Selke voting last season..
I just don't see how Eichel trade is being used as the comparable when Eichel was a worse player when he was traded than Pettersson and Pettersson was injured needing back surgery..

My Attempt At Petey
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanrushton</b></div><div>This is literally just an updated version of the Eichel trade. I don't think that Winnipeg has the pieces but a roster player, a high level prospect, a first, and a second is a fair deal for both sides.</div></div>
Yes.. Eichel who needed Back surgery is close in value to a 25 year old Pettersson who is about to have his second back to back 100 point season and came 7th in selke voting last season..
He is worth more than M.Tkachuk was when he was traded...
Your saying the difference in Lindholm and Pettersson is a 2nd instead of a 3rd?

Brother why are you basing it off the Eichel trade? He never had over 80 points.. Pettersson is 25 and about to have his second 100 point season and he was 7th in selk voting last season...
He will get around or more than M. Tkachuk got.

If Noah Hanifin did not turn down 60 million dollars from the Calgary Flames
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Both sides stopped negotiations. Calgary made it very clear they stopped negotiations with every pending UFA when they were 3rd last in the league at the start of November. Zadorov's trade request followed up by him saying he would still gladly play the rest of his career in Calgary is evidence of that he wants to keep the ball rolling.
As for the trades,
Zadorov will get more than a 3rd easily.
Tanev may get a 1st but I don't fully expect it unless a lot of teams want him.
Lindholm will get more than that, maybe add Lohrei and it's fair since Calgary has to wait a year for the 1st (that is also likely protected too)
Trading a top 25 prospect, a high 1st, and another 1st for 1.5 years of Ekblad is absurd.</div></div>
I mean is a 5th "more" than just a 3rd easily?

I mean you would have the cap space to resign miller with JT and Nylander out, along with that Demko is a top 10 goalie on a good long term contract and is young. This is not enough for them especially considering JT's contract.

Nylander is a point a game player making 2 million more than Garland who is a 40+50 point winger making 1.5 more than Kerfoot who is the same player. This isn't just a little upgrade, it's a massive upgrade. You're ridiculous</div></div>
He is right though, and also Garland and Nylander both have the same amount of 5v5 points, only difference is Nylander played pp and Garland didn't. So its not that much of a upgrade considering Garland is cheaper, on a longer contract.

Miller Comps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>Since 2016, the only two players who were traded for multiple first round picks without a first round pick also going back the other way were Brandon Hagel this year and Brayden Schenn in 2017. Hagel was 23 and signed for 1.5 million for two more years going to a team which literally could not fit anyone more expensive under the cap. Brayden Schenn was 25 and signed for 3 more years at 5.125 million. Miller will not return two first round picks, a top prospect, and a b prospect.</div></div>
I think you have to factor in that with the amount of contenting teams like Colorado losing Kadri and having to resign Mack, and all these other teams that are so tight with the cap, getting a 99 points player for 2.8m or whatever it is, is insane. It is a bidding war, so whatever your calculation is, is probably the minimum and it will only go higher with other teams bidding right. You brought up the ROR and Eichel deals, if we say Miller is even worth 1 first less than either, which he isn't due to Eichel condition, but either way, both of their contract were way higher if you including retention both were 3x time the cap hit.

NOT MY TRADE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>turtlemountain</b></div><div>I replied above but the problem is that JT Miller is signed for one year. You could probably ask for these stupid gigantic returns if he had even a little bit of term, but a 1 year rental is not getting a top 4 defenseman with term, a 1st round pick, and a 3rd.
Rathbone is a call up option but he’s hardly a blue chip at this point. He just turned 23 and has 17 regular season games. Girard had like… 270+ NHL games at that point in his career. Maybe Rathbone develops into a top 4 option as a late bloomer, but he’s more likely just a call up option for most teams in the league, not an impact player.</div></div>
Rathbone is barely a call up? He just finished his 2nd pro year as the highest pp% dman in the AHL, he was rated a top 5 nhl prospect before tallying all those points this year.

NOT MY TRADE
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reason</b></div><div>Girard in a #3 on a team like COL that has two Norris caliber defensemen ahead of him, Girard would easily be the second best defenseman on Vancouver. Girard may be a bit small to send out regularly with QH but he would look great on a pairing with OEL, especially with OEL taking on more of a defensive role, he could easily eat 22-24 minutes a game. With that said I don't think COL would propose/accept that offer.</div></div>
But that would be another LHD dman when we already have hughes and OEL who are also pp quarter backs.

Blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devil</b></div><div>They literally have identical playing styles while Hischier produces more. Seems biased</div></div>
I meant Horvat has 9 more goals while Hischier has more assists, they both played the same amount of games but Horvat has double the amount of hits and is a top 5 faceoff guy in the league. Across their careers both also have a 0.65-.68 point percentage.
If anything your argument should be Hischier due to his age. Cause we can also consider the playoffs where Horvat was leading the playoffs in goal scoring in the bubble until canucks were eliminated where Nico doesn't have that experience apare from his 1 goal in 5 games.
So in total, Horvat scores more, is more physical, and is better at faceoffs and Hishier assists more, both are leaders and both block the same amount.

Accelerated Rebuild
Issues with the Pettersson trade, Canucks are sending a #1 Centre who was leading the league in goals the last month of the season and a top 4 dman for a 3rd line C, a disappointing player for his draft rating who is a winger, A LD prospect, and the 8th pick from this year which we can't get the top RHD prospects and a lottery protected first.
The canucks are giving up a lot and nothing they need is being filled, no RHD is coming back, we already have a LD prospect, and we have plently of wingers esscperially considering Podkolzin and hoglander are both a couple years younger than Zadina and preformed better. By the time those 2 first round picks develop to nhl level the rest of the core will be in their prime and without a #1 Centre.

Hughes as a defenceman had more points in half his rookie year as Zadina has this year in 74 games. Hughes at worst is 3rd and at best 1st 5th is just no argument.

If St Louis loses in the 1st round
This is at best a lateral move for the Canucks for a older player. Horvat has more goals, hits, blocks, and the faceoff difference isn't that much. Getting 6 years older is a no when Canucks are tryna stay young.
