I did and I was thinking this would be a baseline where more pieces would need to be added. This wasnt the whole trade. Thinking of pieces that help COL but they'd need to add more...

I don't think COL needs to add anything here, this is more than a fair offer for one year of JT. Girard is a just turned 24 year old 2-3 Dman who has a great cap hit for the next 5 years. Add the picks and meh prospect, Vancouver definitely accepts.

I don't think Girard is a fit for Vancouver since we already have Hughes as a smaller puck moving LHD.

C'mon you dont just add a point-per-game player who plays all FWD positions, PKs and PPs at 2.625m for a #4 dman and 32nd OA haha Plus Rathbone is almost NHL-ready too. Its a baseline but as soon as a Newhook or something is in a deal they spaz out. COL needs to add.

….what? A 24 year old 2/3 defenseman with 5 more years of term, a 1st, and a 3rd is a huge return for 1 year of JT Miller.

JT Miller is a good player, but it’s one year. A team like Colorado that can’t afford to sign him isn’t going to pay that crazy price tag.

The thought process here was moreso for COL to find the money to sign Byram next year. Mackinnon eats up the EJ money that becomes available

I replied above but the problem is that JT Miller is signed for one year. You could probably ask for these stupid gigantic returns if he had even a little bit of term, but a 1 year rental is not getting a top 4 defenseman with term, a 1st round pick, and a 3rd.

Rathbone is a call up option but he’s hardly a blue chip at this point. He just turned 23 and has 17 regular season games. Girard had like… 270+ NHL games at that point in his career. Maybe Rathbone develops into a top 4 option as a late bloomer, but he’s more likely just a call up option for most teams in the league, not an impact player.

I dont understand how 1 year of Miller could get 5 years of Girard + 1st. He just doesnt have the term to be that valuable

Calling Girard a #4 dman is seriously underselling him. He's much better than that. Not saying Vancouver should take this, but felt I needed to get my two cents in.

So thinking JT Miller is elite because he produced points on a bad team is even funnier. If Miller were as good as VAN fans thought he would have been gone by now.

Girard in a #3 on a team like COL that has two Norris caliber defensemen ahead of him, Girard would easily be the second best defenseman on Vancouver. Girard may be a bit small to send out regularly with QH but he would look great on a pairing with OEL, especially with OEL taking on more of a defensive role, he could easily eat 22-24 minutes a game. With that said I don't think COL would propose/accept that offer.

But that would be another LHD dman when we already have hughes and OEL who are also pp quarter backs.

Rathbone is barely a call up? He just finished his 2nd pro year as the highest pp% dman in the AHL, he was rated a top 5 nhl prospect before tallying all those points this year.

I'm not saying he would be the ideal fit for Vancouver but I think for the cost it would be a no brainer. Although he may be a LHD he plays both sides well and he is not just a PP specialist.
I do agree that Vancouver doesn't need an additional point man on their PP, however their second unit is weak especially up front. So unless they upgrade their top 6 forward group, which I think is unlikely, maybe they run a 3-2 second unit.
