Lines
They could put Dube as the 4th line C and have Klapka playing on the right side with Kadri and Coleman, but that could restrict Dube's minutes which they likely don't want. Schwindt has shown the ability to win draws, giving him 8-10 minutes a game with 3 strong Centres ahead of him being able to double shift a few times a game if needed, won't be a huge issue with the other C's playing too many minutes. I don't know how overly concerned they are about the 4th line C, aslong as he's playing responsible minutes and not losing 70% of his draws.
As far as the D pairings go, I was just going off how Huska had them set with the last lineup before opening night. Anderson and Hanifin could end up together again, and maybe Tanev ends up with Gilbert and Zadarov/Weeger make the other pairing. I think Huska wants his top 4 being Weegar/Tanev/Anderson/Hanifin though.

Yes it's a condition on if Hall re-signs, it's not a pick added, the second turns into a first.
Sam Bennet is worth a 2nd/3rd, so it's not just monahan.
I think the value you're putting on hall is way too high. Unlikely he's going to get anywhere close the rental price Arizona paid, and that was with like 50 games remaining in the season.
Depends if you guys feel confident in re-signing him I guess, but monohan has a good cap hit with term left, and Bennett is still under team control.

Most trades around a rental player have that condition.
If there isn't a first for not re signing hall, then it's a no go.
Flames won't trade Monahan for Middelstadt, a second, and potentially 15-20 games of Taylor Hall.
A big part of this type of trade is Calgary re signing Hall. It's the main reason Monahan is in the trade, and if they can't, they need to have something a little better than a second and Middelstadt for the best goal scorer of his Draft Class.

Making a team based on others posts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>Who do you think they take?</div></div>
Bennett or Kylington if Treliving doesn't add that scoring winger, and Gio and Lucic are OK with being exposed.
If Tre does add that scoring winger and it's not a rental, then Mangiapane or Dube will likely be taken.
This is also why I could see Treliving contemplating packaging Dube or Mangiapane in a trade to acquire that proven scoring winger, as he will lose a protection spot for one of them, risking losing them for nothing anyways.

Making a team based on others posts
Flames will expose Giordano over Tanev, and Im fairly confident Gio will give the green light to being exposed, as it's highly unlikely Seattle wants a declining 36 year old that has only 1 year left at 6.75M.
Valimaki doesn't require protection at the draft since he didn't play at all last season.
This means either Dube or Mangiapane are going to be the likely players Seattle will go after. However, Lucic should waive his NMC to also be exposed, meaning a protection spot won't be required for him, as again Seattle probably won't want to use their selection to take on his contract, relative to earnings and where he is in his career.
Protection should be this (assuming there is no scoring winger added during this season requiring protection)
F- Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Backlund, Lindholm, Mangiapane, Dube
D - Andersson, Tanev, Hanifin
G - Markstrom

He's 27, and has proven he can score in a lesser role. Someone will offer him at least 3m for 3 years, especially if Montreal can't afford to offer anymore, or has to tell him to take a pay cut after forking out all those big contracts last off season.
It's exactly why Armia will test the free market, which could be a factor into Bergevin trading him before the deadline.

I think this would be based on whether Bergevin thinks he's going to be re signing Armia or not.
I could see Armia testing the market in the off season, I'm sure lots of teams will be interested in him, whereas Bennett is still under team control.

Finally contending
Take out the 3rd round pick/Gauthier and Calgary might consider. Strome only has 1 more year left after this season, and he'll probably want more than what Calgary would give him. The flames already have some young d prospects in the system comparable to robertson, and with development time they might not look at him as very valuable, as I don't think they're looking at rebuilding in the next year or so
For the time it takes D to develop, I just don't see the flames getting much better by switching Hanifin for Strome.
They should be able to get a better short term goal scoring winger by moving Hanifin than Strome.

Its a little different grasping at 700k goalies that no one wants because you have no money and you're reaching at straws half way through a season.
Tre already signed Dominque as a depth piece, which ironically was Toronto's answer at one point for their backup issue. Which alludes to him possibly considering trading Ritter if he thinks it can help make the team better.
This is more about what Ritters future with Calgary is beyond next season. If they arent going to re sign him, and there's no trust to play him in the playoffs if Markstrom does get hurt, then whats the point of keeping him for another year, if you feel you can make your team better by trading him.

Its just to clear cap. Tre signed Markstrom as the number 1 with a big cap number, so they don't really need to spend 2.75 mill this year for a backup that most likely won't be returning unless he signs for cheap.
Tre picked up 2 extra 3rds in about 20 minutes by trading down twice, so acting like giving up a 3rd to clear cap space is the dumbest thing out there seems a little over the top IMO.

Thats if Anderson signs the QO. Which he likely won't, then its up to a team to offer sheet him, or what he gets awarded in arbitration. As Anderson had an underwhelming year last year, and the current economic climate arbitration hearings might not be so cut and dry in comparisons.
That being said he could be awarded upwards of 3M.
I also think for this reason the return Columbus gets for Anderson without a contract will not be very high.

Rating All Brad Treliving Trades
That Kulak trade Tre was lucky to get anything so I wouldn't say it was horrible.
He clearly wasn't going to pay Kulak what the arbitrator was going to award him.
The one thing with Treliving is that he has been really solid at negotiating with RFAs and saving cap room. Its just unfortunate he then turns around and hands out a deal to brouwer or neal that screws them over the next 6 years.
Hall could be that next contract unfortunately.

They don't have home ice advantage for the whole series. 2 out of the first 4 games(if it's not a sweep) they'll be the away team and Winnipeg will have last change.

Gaud bye
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>why are flames fans obsessed with trading Gaudreau? like yeah sure he struggled this year, but hes the best forward this franchise has had since Iggy. Of his 6 seasons in Calgary, 3 have been a PPG+ including last years monstrous 99 point year. Even on a bad year like this season, he's still good for over 65 points and hes signed to a cheap contract. The only possible way I could see a gaudreau trade is if Flames won Laf, because they'd have Laf/Tkachuck as their left wingers</div></div>
The thing with Gaudreau is that hes not really a playoff performer that will lead a team, and he more than likely will test the market and/or just prefer to sign somewhere closer to his home area.
So it's either they hang onto him and hope he can get it going over the next few playoffs with the tougher playoff style, OR they look at trading him for a strong return before he becomes a rental player.
If there wasn't any concern about him leaving at the end of his contract I don't think Flames fans would be considering trading him at this point. Yes it's probably a season early, but it's definitely a situation Treliving is thinking about and has to consider.
Putting up 100 pts in the regular season and vanishing in the playoffs isn't really what the Flames are looking for. They're trying to get passed the "just make the playoffs" mentality and become an actual contender.
Which at this point, I don't think they are there yet with the current forward group.

I think the Jackets would need to add a sweetener for that trade, or sign Anderson to a contract that is more than a 1 year prove it deal at a good price.
Too many questions with his injury, and he's 4 years older than Dube so way less team control at this point.
I think the Jackets either trade him for what they can get now prior to signing him, or they need to commit to him, otherwise they'll be trading him for peanuts at the deadline next year.
