Buffalo Sabres signed Mattias Samuelsson (7 Years / $4,285,714 AAV)

If he hits his 2LD ceiling the contract isn't even much of a bargain (more like going rate than anything else) so I don't see the upside considering they'll have other dman to spend money on soon.</div></div>
His 2LD ceiling when he's already been playing top pair LD? It's funny how people in here are so clueless about a player. It's fine to not know about a player, but at least do some research before commenting about it.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChrisNapoleon</b></div><div>Somehow worse than the Andrew Ladd contract...</div></div>
Yea a 22 year old 6'4 defenceman with great defensive metrics is similar to a 31 year old power forward FA.

Montreal Canadiens signed Kirby Dach (4 Years / $3,362,500 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KSIxSKULLS</b></div><div>Roy at 25 had 59 points in 163 games. Very comparable to Dach's stats before he signed his 3m X 5
Lindholm's contract at 20 was 2.7m x 2 and he had 60 points in 139 games. Those are just 2 random contracts I picked to make a point. Literally go on the tool and look at them. It happens all of the time. I don't understand why you are arguing with me right now when you can prove yourself wrong with 3 clicks.</div></div>
Before we even get to the player cases, let's be clear that there is no "paid too much too soon" filter on any search engine here. So I have no idea why you keep acting like that's a thing to be found here. Secondly, by reducing everything to just points per game, you're glossing over a whole lot that separates these cases. As for Roy, 1) he's a defensive center (and still coming off a season that was far better offensively than anything Dach has done) & 2) again, he's not 21. He has been a rink tilting player a few seasons now. And Lindholm had already had two .5 ppg seasons before his 2nd deal, which was half as short and 600K+ smaller than Dach's. So he was considerably better at that age and got considerably less of a deal. These are obviously not apt comparisons. At all.

Bro, neither of those player's you listed had any situation that was slightly comparable to Dach's. Roy's second deal was below 1M and his third was <em>earned</em> at 25. Lindholm has been underpaid for his performance on both his 2nd and 3rd deal, which again came much later than age 21.

I don't get the Draisaitl references. Leon was MUCH more accomplished than Stuztle is when he signed that deal, AND that deal was considered an overpay for what he had accomplished at the time. Sure he became a 50-goal, 100-point player after a fairly pedestrian (for a superstar) start, but how often does that happen? Exactly never - Leon is the only guy to play at that level without being named a can't miss, generational talent from an early age.

watch out when you are using the word idiot, cause it can come back in your face! an offersheet is put on a 5 year term, so if he signed that it would be 4 first round pick when you put it on a 5 year term with the AAV . (you can go sign an RFA in armchair Gm to see for yourself).

Explain that pattern to me</div></div>
I think a pretty good rule of thumb, with the salary cap currently at $82.5mm, is $1mm for every 10 points for forwards. Of course there are other factors, such as 2-way play, leadership, etc, but at the end of the day, GMs pay forwards for their offensive production.
If a player is on a $8.35mm deal, they should be putting up roughly 83 points.
Obviously, Stutzle has until the 2023-2024 season to reach that level. Then as the salary cap explodes, that $1mm will be for every 7-9 points, or whatever the math works out to be.

You’re out of your mind if you think Jets would turn down 2 first in the 2023 draft, Dvorak and Poehling (another first rounder) for Dubois. If this kind of offer was on the table it wouldve been accepted already. Jets would have 3 first rounders in one of the deepest drafts (especially at C). Dubois could easily be teplaced.
