Get me a goalie Ken
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>thats the point. They are screwed, they arent getting help anytime soon so if the idea is to get someone to upgrade from Koskinen now, its not happening, they will have to ride it out for him for a big chunk of the season waiting for help to arrive and by then it could be too late</div></div>
The thing is, If they can Upgrade Koskinen 3 weeks from now they will end up with more wins by the end of the season. waiting till deadline does nothing. 14-21 days is actually nothing wen it comes to being better afterwards... there would still be 2/3 of the season left to play catch up.

Lagesson and Bear sign for less for those years. Lagesson is a league min guy on 1 or 2 year deal. Bear is 1 year Deangelo 1M type deal or a 2-3 year deal in the ~2M range. Holland hard balls his RFAs

BARRIE TO EDMONTON
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>Why does bouch need more time? I think when your named an ahl all star that kinda earns a legit opportunity. Don’t give Bouchard the experience this year then have him and broberg coming in at the same time. Hardly think we are 2+ years from broberg cracking the line up.</div></div>
I think the idea is to replace Klefbom minutes with another proven PP guy. Once Klefbom gets put on LTIR the Barrie signing is just lateral. We would still have room to sign a goalie(if there's anyone available) or even trade for a goalie. And sign another depth D or land another top 9 forward like Kahun. Holland also said he doesn't want to give young players a spot, they have to win it. Bouchard could still come in during training camp and take a spot. The left side is still wide open. I could see him Barrie or Bouch moving to either side to make it work, if he does in fact win a job.

Lines when everyones healthy
I'm still so much more preferential to Ennis as a LW on a shutdown third line with Sheahan and Archibald. You don't need three offensive lines when the top two lines are going to command 40+ minutes a night. Teams are going to need to dedicate a combination of their best defensive lines and pairings just to think about containing the Dynamite and McDavid lines. A shutdown line will eat away at any depth scoring the opposition can muster. That leaves a sheltered usage line of Neal-Haas-Chiasson to pick away at opposing teams over the course of a seven-game series.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Omark23</b></div><div>Who are you getting back in a Neal trade though? Another cap anchor most likley. I don't like buyouts but this gives you the ability to sign Hall to a competitive contract.</div></div>
A pick. Any 25+ goal scorer at $3.8M has positive value. 33% retention adds the same amount of room as the buyout does, but it only lasts for 3 years vs 6.

I'd love to see Benson on the 1st line, I think that line could be very successful together. Benson is a very cerebral player who is pretty good on the boards and responsible defensively.
That 2nd line is blowing up the league - every coach is putting out their best defenders against McDavid and the Draisaitl line is taking advantage. It's no coincidence that the Oilers are one of the hottest teams in the league since that line was put together: this line is 13 GF - 2 GA at 5v5 in the past 11 games, Oilers record is 8-1-2 with a +20 goal differential.
Also, I think I'd have Caleb Jones in instead of Russell: 2 goals and +4 in the past 2 games when paired with Benning. They seem to have instant chemistry.

Kreider is a very good skater and has good hands - two very big dissimilarities to Lucic. I don't see the connection... in any case, Kreider will likely be more expensive than he's worth, so I agree that Edmonton shouldn't go after him.
But Thornton and Marleau? Perennial chokers. I'd go after guys like Granlund, Koivu and Craig Smith, personally.

You gotta hope that Holland is smart enough to realize it's not worth dealing solid assets for rentals, the Oilers are doing unexpectedly well but it's still not worth dealing anything higher then a 3rd round pick for a rental imo.

Killer First Line After Taylor Hall Trade
The Oilers are already on pace to make the playoffs and do not need Hall to get there, IMO. At this point, Bear is going to be more valuable to the team than Hall because defense wins championships. Bear is a fast, tough, puck-moving RHD who is RFA.
I would hate to see the Oilers give up a 1st also. It could be the next Pastrnak, Klefbom, Kuznetsov, etc.

An idea
You guys have four top-6 forwards, including three that can play center. You should focus on filling the other two wing slots first rather than looking for a #3 C, and for the reasons advanced by <a href="/users/BlastnyFromThePastny" target="_blank">@BlastnyFromThePastny</a> , Ottawa probably isn't interested in sending you Duclair (and surely isn't interested in sending you Pageau unless they're convinced he won't re-up there).

The ONLY way Hall comes back
I agree with much of what you wrote here, specifically that Holland won't trade for Hall. While I personally wouldn't sign him, some of the smartest hockey people I know have said they would, so I do have time for the "sign Hall" conversation. I would make it conditional on a couple things: (a) the contract mirrors Stone's deal with Vegas, I.e. no more than $9.5M cap hit, (b) clean disposition of Neal's contract and probably Russell's, too. If Neal scores 30+ (seems likely, he's on pace for 55) there are teams that would take a hard look. I'm going to suggest NJ as Neal is the player they were hoping Simmonds could be this year, I doubt they re-sign Simmonds and in this scenario they lose Hall too, so they might well be in the market for a big goal scoring winger. Russell will have 1 year left and (after July 1st) will be owed $1.5M, there are teams that will find that attractive for sure. And it's not like Russell's game is declining, you could easily make the argument that this year has been his best in a while.
The alternative to signing Hall would be signing other guys that can help for less: Kreider ($5.6M x 4), Kassian ($3M x 1), etc. I also think Bear should get term, I'd like to see him signed to the Ellis contract, which works out to $3M x 5 based on an $83M upper limit.
Petan is meh - Benson is better IMO.
