I don't see Klefbom meeting the criteria fully here. He played full year last year, he's now out with a shoulder injury, but don't think anything has pointed out to it being a career threatening one. I don't see him going that route under the league approval. Who knows. I think we'll be getting more info as the ExD gets closer.
As of now, I think EDM will be protecting Klefbom as they normally would. I'd advise against thinking EDM don't have to worry about protecting the guy.</div></div>
Lol I am not going to worry about what you advise as clearly you really dont know what you're talking about. Klefbom's injury absolutely has been discussed as career threatening.
If you're going to give bad opinions at least give some effort to know all the facts.

The Oilers will likely be able to protect him. Klefbom is going to miss 56 games this season, the rule last expansion draft made anyone who missed 60 games (out of 82) exempt. Barrie and Larsson are free agents. Russell is not worth protecting and Bouchard is exempt. The Oilers will protect Nurse, Bear and one of Jones or Lagesson and ones has the much higher ceiling.

Maybe he is right now but PLD is a 5 years younger and an RFA at the end of this contract. Nuge only has this season left before UFA status.

Could just extend Koekkoek to meet expansion draft requirements. Could also just send Chicago Lagesson instead of Russell, he proabably has more value to them. Larsson and Barrie are UFA after this year. If Zadorov came in and played well we could just protect him over Caleb Jones who has been bad, and Klefbom who may never play again.
The issue with this is hoping that Chicago moves Zadorov for that little, considering they gave up Saad to get him.

Which FA are we going to sign for 4mil or less that is an improvement from Russell on the left side.

Yes, if you think that leaning on a PP and PK to drag the team along is going to consistently work then you are completely out of touch. The goal should be to make the team better at 5v5 and again "dismantling" the special teams by getting of the 3 worst players on the roster is not going to cripple the specials in the way you seem to believe it will, those guys are all totally replaceable.
And you keep saying "it worked" well we were dragged by two players most of the season and got bounced in the qualifier by a 12 seed so I really dont think it did.

Yes you have said that and your reasoning is to stick to what "worked" and lean on special teams players that are absolute garbage at 5v5 and cry about draft picks that are for the most part already gone anyway.
It doesnt offend me it just confuses me how someone could be so willingly ignorant of reality

I don’t recall hall ever having that influence on the pp. they play a different role on it which is by far more suitable that what hall does. Hall can skate that’s not what made the pp good. Chiasson is a fantastic net front presence and I’d argue shooting Neal has a better shot and is capable of one timers which hall doesn’t. Hall is better overall player than them but I’d without question take both Neal and or Chiasson for oilers pp not even close</div></div>
If you're taking Chiasson and Neal over Hall on the PP, as you just said you are. Then yes, I think I used the right word. If you're trying to tell me they did anything other than stand infront of the net and bury rebounds and tap ins you're again wrong but this is a growing trend for you. If you think that they need someone to stand there and screen the goalie to be successful then Kassian can do that. Problem solved.

Has nothing to do with OEL. OEL is still a top 20ish player at his position Turris is nowhere near that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>So the special teams carried this team to any success this past season. So it’s a good idea not resign sheahan and then give away JJ who had the best pk % in the league for future consideration then not only send out two very useful pp players but pay a first to remove one that was able to provide 19 goals in half a season. No second round picks or third round picks for two years in a row. Ya I’m not feeling this plan</div></div>
If you think Chiasson and Neal are going to help a PP more than Taylor Hall you're a moron.
If you think JJ is an NHL player you're wrong.
The PK had success because of the system not the players. They players are actually fairly replaceable. Haula can kill, Nuge and Archibald who killed a lot of minutes are still here, yamo can kill.
The special teams had to carry the team because 5v5 was terrible. this makes the 5v5 version of the team better so they arent required to lean on specials.
Im not feeling a "plan" that leans on Juhjar Khaira and 3rd round picks, if you are then more power to ya.

McDrai didn't work because they always leaked more goals than they scored.
Kassian does not do it very well. He needs someone like Brendan Gallagher. Again, this isn't NHL 20, this is real life. Playmaker + Shooter =/= instant chemistry. There's a lot more to hockey than offense</div></div>
What is mental impediment do you have thats causing you to think McDrai "didnt work" again, they were the best line in hockey for like two years

Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ken_holland</b></div><div>This isn't NHL 20. Sniper + Playmaker doesn't mean automatic goals
Way I think of it:
McDavid is poor in his own end. He is exceptional is the offensive zone. How can we fix that? By getting players around him that can battle along the boards and keep the puck in the offensive zone, like Ehlers.
Laine is a stationary sniper that is just as poor at defense as McDavid. It won't go very well. Same reason why McDrai didn't work.</div></div>
No **** sherlock. Its also not a league where you can look at a stat sheet and think that tells the whole story. If you think McDavid himself is a bad defensive hockey player you clearly dont know what you're talking about. The guy is having to carry a line entirely by himself, usually in both ends of the ice, we have horrendous goal tending and an iffy blue line, no **** his defensive numbers are going to be bad. However when he's played on lines where he isnt the only player on the line capable of scoring goals, he doesnt have to fly the zone as often or try to do so much himself defensively.
What planet are you living on where McDrai didnt work? They were the best line in hockey for the better part of two calendar years until it got to the point where they were starting to break down because they were playing 26 minutes a night because no other forward line was trusted to do more than tread water. Once they got split up guess what happened? Leon's defensive numbers got better because he was playing fewer minutes and with the other two forwards on the team that didnt suck. McDavid after the split struggled in his own end but that tends to happen when you're playing with Zack Kassian and Josh Archibald.
Battling along the boards requires nothing but willingness, let the Kassians of the world do that, as of now those are the ONLY style of players that McDavid gets to play with, if there is an opportunity to get him a shooter like Laine you take it.

Yeah I completely disagree with that. The shot and offensive instincts that he has + the fact he would be playing with Connor would see him score 50 without doubt.
I like Ehlers too, would be pumped if the Oilers landed him, but given the choice between them I think Laine is the better player
