Thanks. I posted a rough sketch for it. Maybe Matthews would be more realistic, with the standings, but this seemed like fun: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/526613
Nobody's shot it down yet, but nobody's accepted.
I think with Samsonov, the Caps just have to be patient and keep trying to help him develop into the great goalie they've already seen so many flashes of. And in the offseason, if they can't afford him, there will be other goalies on the market. A 3rd round pick is not worth arguing for. He's easily worth a 2nd and a backup goalie if a team needs a starter. It's just too early in the season for any team to need a starting goalie.

The most hilarious part about this trade, if it happened, would be watching the Caps win two lotteries for Edmonton, after Ovechkin, Carlson, and Backstrom get old, and then McDavid signing back with the Oilers, to play with McMichael, finally. :)
The second dumb joke about this would be, when Backstrom is healthy, the new HBK line.

Lines, not depth charts. McDavid and Puljujarvi have to get to know a new LW, whoever that is. Might as well keep the 2nd-highest-scoring line in the league together, while the new guys learn the system?

This was posted about the same time I read that Mantha is out for a long time. I think it was written thinking the team could use cap space to make additions.
With Mantha, Backstrom, and Oshie out, the Caps have room to add, if available, McDavid and Kessel. It would be difficult to come up with enough future pieces to land both, without giving up any roster players, but the cap space is there, and they're still, somehow, in playoff position. This roster is fat-free.
Time to add some gratuitous goal scoring.

How silly of me to think Minnesota would add some B prospects, retain, and take back Kempny to trade for a goalie. Whoops. My mistake. Thanks for having my back, there. :)

Leafs fans playing some defense. What if WSH flips Andersson to Toronto for a 3rd?
You can even dump Holl or Dermott into that.
(crickets)
LA can sign Demers, too, but without training camp, he'll take a while to adjust, and his career high is 34 points. Schultz has a 51 point season and was on pace for 48 last year. LA could throw in Athanasiou and still be ahead. Or Walker. I'm assuming WSH only takes this if they have a better use for the cap space. If we're talking about a replacement for Doughty, I think Schultz is a good fit, and would cost a lot less than Dahlin.
The trade price for Burns might be similar to this, but there's the contract, to worry about, if Doughty will eventually be back. Would SJ trade Burns to a local rival? On that contract? Probably.

Seems fair. LA is one point out of a playoff spot with Wakler and Doughty out. Schultz has filled in as 1RD in Pittsburgh and Washington. Can play either special team. Can eat some minutes. Isn't getting much ice time behind Carlson right now, but that's normal. What's up with Andersson?
Does LA take this as-is, or do they expect their injured guys back soon enough that they need to add a player for a late pick to balance the cap?

He really got the best of both worlds this year. He'll save on taxes until the deadline, and Toronto fans/media won't have time to get sick of him between the deadline and the playoffs. Hope Mrazek likes low taxes.

Since Greenway trades are hot fire today
Doubt the Caps move a goalie during this season.
Last year a Minnesota fan suggested Greenway and Hartman for Eller, but if Hartman is playing well at #2C now, that's probably off.
I imagine Greenway has more trade value than Hagelin, but Hagelin seems like a good fit on the Caps fourth line.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>I think the issue on Caps side is where they'd play Greenway. They are already stacked at wing: Ovi, Mantha, Wilson, Oshie, Sprong, Sheary with McMichael most likely replacing Sheary next season. So maybe if they move on from Sprong?</div></div>
" if there’s salary you’d want to clear out..."
Sprong plus minor-league Kempny almost adds up to Greenway's cap hit. Should be a workable option for each side, if Cholowski makes Kempny available. No guarantee on when/if Kempny makes an impact in the NHL again, but Sprong led the Caps in points/60 last year. If Kempny can come back for the playoffs, that's a bonus.
Kempny played top pair for the Cup run in '18, but he's been through some knee injuries, so I don't know if he has any trade value right now. On top of Sprong, WSH probably adds a 5th.

I think I would keep him and try to get him to sign long term for less than $5,000,000.</div></div>
Oh, for sure, if it's that cheap. But can you imagine four first round picks joining a team all at once? Have we seen a team do that, this century? Teams keep picking more accurately every year. Four firsts on ELCs, coming up around the same time as Power? Could be good. Still, I'm sure WSH has to add, like, Lucas Johansen at least, because Olofsson is good.

Looking at Olofsson on his own, Buffalo should sign him long term. Looking at how many first round picks Buffalo is putting together, maybe they take another one for the sake of adding four good players on ELCs, all at once.
Dallas should very happy with that return if they're out of the playoff picture.
MTL doesn't need Schultz if they're rebuilding. Toronto might give them a 2nd to swap Holl for a retained Schultz, though.
Good trades. I'm not sure I see what Sheary brings to the checking line, and I think they'd miss Hagelin, there. Other than that, it makes sense.

Capitals realistically won't have the space for him, while Oshie is out for a while and Backstrom is on LTIR, Backy should be back soon which really effs the cap situation regardless of a dadanov trade.
Edit: just looked at Dadanov's contract and there is no way the caps even consider it. Not only does it mess with the cap this year it takes away most of the space the Caps will free up in the offseason. With the need to resign guys like Sprong, Vanacek, Samsonov, and possibly Dowd and a limited amount of Cap to work with even if/when they let Kempny and Schultz walk, the Dadanov contract all but guarantees none of the previously mentioned players could realisitically come back.</div></div>
Good player, though. I tried to post something yesterday that could make Dadonov and Smith to WSH work, if Buffalo retained, if that was the way they could get an Eichel deal done. Today, I think Buffalo is less motivated to pay that $7M.

Who would realistically replace Travis Dermott and Justin Holl on the Leafs
Justin Schultz seems to be off to a great start defensively, but isn't doing much on offense. That's the opposite of his reputation. A team with a top four spot for him, and some power play time, might just get more out of him. 4M cap hit is tough, but if Holl is dumped elsewhere, maybe WSH would take Ritchie for Schultz?

Here's hoping Eichel has a successful surgery and can be pain-free. Here's hoping Tuch recovers properly from whatever has him on LTIR. If not, Krebs, a 1st, and a 3rd for just a 3rd seems like a pretty good deal for Buffalo.
I like your trade for the Rangers, though. Krebs and Tuch seems like an upgrade over what you were offering, for sure.

<a href="/users/Radu47" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Radu47</a> Good question about NJ. They have too many offensive defensemen, so their fans are looking for more of a defensive guy to anchor their right side, plus an established 3C: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2882387
CGY probably spends big this summer just keeping Gaudreau and Mangiapane, so they don't extend their UFA defensemen, and just plan to put Kylington, Desimone, and Mackey into their regular lineup. If UFAs show up cheap, at the end of the offseason, great.
The above could also be a fit for your Leafs, if they wanted to move Holl and Kerfoot. Not sure if that's enough to get retention on Subban, but maybe? Tag me if you post it, please.
